  1. 1. Extraction of logging residues for bioenergy : effects of operational methods on fuel quality and biomass losses in the forest

    Författare :Bengt Nilsson; Johan Bergh; Gudmund Vollbrecht; Rolf Björheden; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Forest fuel; Storage; Fraction composition; Needles; Defoliation; Moisture content; Nutrients; Nitrogen; Norway spruce; Picea abies; Skogsbränsle; Lagring; Fraktionsfördelning; Barr; Avbarrning; Fukthalt; Näringsämnen; Kväve; Gran; Picea abies; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Wood products play a key role in the transformation to a more sustainable society based on renewable bio-based resources, together with the positive effects on climate mitigation by replacing fossil fuels. However, to increase the use of forest fuel in practice it is important to understand the effects of handling and storage on its quality and removal of nutrients from the forest. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Monitoring insect defoliation in forests with time-series of satellite based remote sensing data - near real-time methods and impact on the carbon balance

    Författare :Per-Ola Olsson; BECC - Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []

    Sammanfattning : Forests are of major importance to climate change mitigation due to their strong capacity to sequester carbon. Nearly half of the terrestrial carbon is stored in forests, and forests contribute to half of the terrestrial primary productivity, with forests in the mid- and high latitude ecosystems as major contributors. 3. 3. Spatial and temporal dynamics of subarctic birch forest carbon exchange

    Författare :Michal Heliasz; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mountain birch; eddy covariance; carbon budget; insect outbreak; forest expansion; temporal variability; spatial variability;

    Sammanfattning : High northern latitudes are of special importance for the global carbon budget as they store large amounts of organic matter in the soil and are expected to be the most strongly affected by climate change. Here we investigate carbon exchange in the subarctic mountain birch forest growing on the limit where tree growth is possible. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Structural Growth in Mountain Birch, Betula pubescens ssp. czerepanovii

    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I have studied long shoot performance in the monoecious, deciduous tree Betula pubescens ssp. czerepanovii. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Resource economy of carnivorous plants: Interactions between prey capture and plant performance in three subarctic Pinguicula species

    Författare :Magnus Thorén; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant ecology; income breeder; capital breeder; supplementary feeding; reproductive effort; life-history; cost of reproduction; Växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I have studied in situ the resource economy of the three carnivorous plant species Pinguicula alpina, P. villosa and P. vulgaris in a subarctic environment. The prey capture varied among individual plants, years and species. LÄS MER
