  1. 1. Topological and Scaling Analysis of Geospatial Big Data

    Författare :Ding Ma; Bin Jiang; Shaowen Wang; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Third definition of fractal; scaling; topology; power law; head tail breaks; ht-index; complex network; geospatial big data; natural cities; natural streets; Hållbar stadsutveckling; Sustainable Urban Development;

    Sammanfattning : Geographic information science and systems face challenges related to understanding the instinctive heterogeneity of geographic space, since conventional geospatial analysis is mainly founded on Euclidean geometry and Gaussian statistics. This thesis adopts a new paradigm, based on fractal geometry and Paretian statistics for geospatial analysis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Integrated Register Allocation and Instruction Scheduling with Constraint Programming

    Författare :Roberto Castañeda Lozano; Christian Schulte; Mats Carlsson; Ingo Sander; Peter van Beek; Roberto Castaneda Lozano; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation proposes a combinatorial model, program representations, and constraint solving techniques for integrated register allocation and instruction scheduling in compiler back-ends. In contrast to traditional compilers based on heuristics, the proposed approach generates potentially optimal code by considering all trade-offs between interdependent decisions as a single optimization problem. 3. 3. An Informed System Development Approach to Tropical Cyclone Track and Intensity Forecasting

    Författare :Chandan Roy; Rita Kovordanyi; Henrik Eriksson; Mattias Villani; Frank C. Lin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biologically based artificial neural networks; bi-directionally connected networks; temporal sequence learning; accurate tropical cyclone forecasting; informative warning message; ;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Tropical Cyclones (TCs) inflict considerable damage to life and property every year. A major problem is that residents often hesitate to follow evacuation orders when the early warning messages are perceived as inaccurate or uninformative. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Parallelism in Event-Based Computations with Applications in Biology

    Författare :Pavol Bauer; Stefan Engblom; Markos A. Katsoulakis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; Event-based computations; Parallel algorithms; Discrete-event simulation; Monte-Carlo methods; Systems biology.; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Event-based models find frequent usage in fields such as computational physics and biology as they may contain both continuous and discrete state variables and may incorporate both deterministic and stochastic state transitions. If the state transitions are stochastic, computer-generated random numbers are used to obtain the model solution. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Energy-efficient resource provisioning for cloud data centers

    Författare :Selome Kostentinos Tesfatsion; Johan Tordsson; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Energy efficiency has become a fundamental concern in data centers, raising issues to all energy-related costs, including capital costs, operating expenses, and environmental impact. Energy inefficiency is mainly caused by unoptimized use of energy by sub-components of these data centers. LÄS MER
