Sammanfattning : Our society depends on advanced and complex technical systems and machines, for example, cars for transportation, industrial robots in production lines, satellites for communication, and power plants for energy production. Consequences of a fault in such a system can be severe and result in human casualties, environmentally harmful emissions, high repair costs, or economical losses caused by unexpected stops in production lines. Sammanfattning : The immune system has evolved to protect us from infectious disease and not to overreact to our own tissues or commensal flora. Immune system attack directed against self-tissue is referred to as autoimmune disease, a group of diseases that affect more than 5% of the population. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Engineering heat transfer problems are very often of a complex nature and most often no analytical solutions exist. One way to create solutions to such problems is to apply numerical methods. This study concerns heat transfer problems with coupled conduction, convection and thermal radiation. LÄS MER
4. Numerical models for degradation of concrete in hydraulic structures due to long-term contact with water
Sammanfattning : The durability of concrete is of major concern in all types of concrete structures where the combined effect of exposure conditions and the type and quality of the concrete material usually determines the rate of degradation. Furthermore, there are synergy effects between different deterioration mechanisms, which means that the combined rate of degradation is higher than the sum of the individual rates of each mechanism. Sammanfattning : Einstein's theory of general relativity is a cornerstone in the process of gaining increased understanding about problems of gravitational nature. It can be applied to problems on the huge length scales of cosmology and as far as we know it does not break down before the Planck scale is approached. LÄS MER
