    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systemic Lupus Erythematosus; Cardiovascular Disease; Intima-Media Thickness; STAT4; IRF8; Interferon-α; Plasmacytoid dendritic cell; GM-CSF; IL-3; Medicin; Medicine; Genetics; Genetik; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune, inflammatory disease characterized by autoantibody production and an activated type I interferon system. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is as a major cause of morbidity and mortality. The aim of this thesis was to identify genetic risk factors for CVD in SLE. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Genetic Contributions to Manifestations and Prognosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

    Författare :Sarah Reid; Dag Leonard; Timothy Niewold; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systemic lupus erythematosus; genetics; cardiovascular disease; polygenic risk score; smoking; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a severe autoimmune disease with a multifactorial aetiology and an extremely heterogenous clinical picture. This thesis explores the impact of SLE genetic variants, through their cumulative effect or gene-environment interactions, on SLE manifestations and complications. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Calcium and Phospholipases in Orexin Receptor Signaling

    Författare :Lisa Johansson; Jyrki Kukkonen; Karl Åkerman; Christopher S. Leonard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Physiology; orexin; receptor; calcium; phospholipase; cell signaling; GPCR; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The neuropeptides orexin-A and -B act as endogenous ligands for G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) called OX1 and OX2 receptors. Previous observations have established that orexin receptors have an ability to couple to different G-proteins and signaling pathways and induce Ca2+ elevations via both receptor-operated Ca2+ channels (ROCs) and store-operated Ca2+ channels (SOCs).
