  1. 1. Biological Functions of Iduronic Acid in Chondroitin/Dermatan Sulfate in Tumor and Brain Development

    Detta är en avhandling från Department of Experimental Medical Science, Lund Univeristy

    Författare :Martin Thelin; [2012]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; iduronic acid; chondroitin sulfate; esophagus squamous cell carcinoma; cancer; MET receptor; dermatan sulfate; hepatocyte growth factor; DS-epimerase 2; DS-epimerase 1;

    Sammanfattning : Cell behavior such as migration and proliferation, especially during cancer development, are balanced by the surrounding environment. Complex polysaccharides called glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are part of this environment and they are known to modulate tumor development. LÄS MER

  2. 2. FROM GENE TO STRUCTURE: Formation of Iduronic Acid in Dermatan Sulfate by Two DS-epimerases

    Detta är en avhandling från Lund University

    Författare :Benny Pacheco; [2008]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : During embryonic development and adult life a wide range of cell behaviors such as differentiation, proliferation and migration are in effect to maintain tissue integrity and function. An integral part of these dynamic processes is the interplay between the cells and their environment, i.e. the extracellular space. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Glucuronyl C5-epimerases in the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Åsa Hagner McWhirter; Uppsala universitet.; [1999]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; MEDICINE Chemistry Biochemistry; MEDICIN Kemi Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on two enzymes, both glucuronyl CS-epimerases, that catalyse the conversion of D-glucuronic acid (GlcA) into L-iduronic acid (IdoA) residues in the repeating disaccharide units of heparin/heparan sulphate (HS) and dermatan sulphate (DS) polymers. These glycosaminoglycans are produced as proteoglycans, in which linear polysaccharide chains are attached covalently to a protein core. LÄS MER
