    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis work was to gain understanding of the principles of biolubrication, focusing on synergistic effects between biolubricants. To this end surface force and friction measurements were carried out by means of Atomic Force Microscopy, using hydrophilic and hydrophobic model surfaces in salt solutions of high ionic strength (≈ 150 mM) in presence of different biolubricants. 3. 3. Surface Force and Friction : effects of adsorbed layers and surface topography

    Författare :Xiaoyan Liu; Per Claesson; Bjorn Torger Stokke; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Friction; nanotribology; surface forces; diblock copolymer; lipid; QCM-D; AFM; optical reflectometry; neutron reflectivity; X-ray reflectivity; micro-patterned surface; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Interfacial features of polymers are a complex, fascinating topic, and industrially very important. There is clearly a need to understand interactions between polymer layers as they can be used for controlling surface properties, colloidal stability and lubrication. The aim of my Ph. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Characterization of supported lipid membranes towards the development of nano-sized drug carriers for hyperthermia applications

    Författare :Yujia Jing; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; size dependence; Supported lipid membrane; lipid phase transition; flip-flop; asymmetry;

    Sammanfattning : So called thermosensitive liposomal drug carriers for temperature-controlled drug release under hyperthermal conditions have recently attracted great attention and advanced lipid membrane - nanoparticle assemblies are emerging at an increasing rate to meet the demands for multifunctional drug carriers in medicine. The rational design of these drug delivery systems will require understanding of lipid membrane physicochemical properties under conditions relevant to the medical treatment. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Synthetic pulmonary surfactant : effects of surfactant proteins B and C and their analogues

    Författare :Andreas Almlén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Pulmonary surfactant is a lipid/protein mixture lining the air-liquid interface in the alveoli. Its main function is to lower surface tension during respiration and thereby prevent alveolar collapse at end-expiration. Surfactant deficiency, especially common in prematurely born babies, is the main cause of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). LÄS MER
