1. Chiral Ruthenium Dipyrodiphenazine Complexes: DNA Binding and Excited State Relaxation
Sammanfattning : Ruthenium complexes with aromatic ligands have been extensively studied due to their interesting photophysical properties, including photophysics and electron transfer upon interaction with nucleic acids. For example, the broad absorption spectrum makes them suitable as antenna molecules in photochemical reaction systems and their ability to accept or donate electrons in their excited state could have potential in opto-electronical devices. 3. The miswak (chewing stick) and oral health : studies on oral hygiene practices of urban Saudi Arabians
Sammanfattning : The miswak, a traditional chewing stick for cleaning teeth, is made from the plant Salvadora persica. For religious and cultural reasons, miswak use is firmly established and widespread in Saudi Arabia and most other Muslim countries. Only recently has scientific evaluation of the miswak been undertaken. LÄS MER
4. DNA Electrophoresis in Polymer Solutions. Separation Mechanisms studied by Fluorescence and Linear Dichroism Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Capillary electrophoresis of DNA in polymer solutions is a promising technique for separation of DNA molecules according to size. The primary aim of the work presented in this thesis was to get a better understanding of the electrophoretic separation mechanism in these media by studying the DNA migration behavior during electrophoresis in both entangled and non-entangled polymer solutions using linear dichroism spectroscopy and fluorescence video microscopy. 5. Magnetic Nanoparticle Based Biosensors for Pathogen Detection and Cancer Diagnostics
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes several magnetic nanoparticle (MNP)-based biosensing strategies which take advantage of different magnetic sensors, molecular tools and nanotechnologies. Proposed biosensors can be classified into three groups, i.e., immunoassay-based, molecular amplification-based, and nanoparticle assembly-based. LÄS MER
