  1. 11. Outcome of preoperative radiotherapy in the treatment of cervical cancer with focus on protein expression and dosimetry

    Författare :Catharina Beskow; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Treatment with preoperative intracavitary radiotherapy (ICRT) is used in cervical cancer with the intention to reduce the tumour burden and sterilize microscopic disease in the paracervical tissues. Preoperative ICRT is, however, a controversial treatment regime since it is unclear if addition of ICRT to surgery improves treatment outcome compared to surgery alone. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Chemical, pharmacokinetic and biological aspects of platinum-based drugs

    Författare :Jeffrey R Yachnin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The use of cisplatin for the treatment of metastatic testicular cancer is a medical historical landmark given that, for the first time, patients could be cured with drug therapy. A third generation platinum-based drug, oxaliplatin, has been registered for use in the treatment of colorectal cancer. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Molecular characterization of phenothiazines in experimental cancer therapy : new tricks of an old drug revealed

    Författare :Dali Zong; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is characterized by uncontrolled malignant proliferation of cells that eventually interfere with tissue/organ functions. Traditionally, cancer is treated with chemo- and/or radiotherapy when surgery is not an option. Unfortunately, the efficacy of conventional anti-cancer chemotherapy is severely limited by therapy resistance. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Molecular aspects of cellular radiosensitivity in small cell lung carcinoma

    Författare :Florin Sirzén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :lung carcinoma; radiosensitivity; DNA double-strand breaks; DNA-dependent protein kinase; cell cycle checkpoints; apoptosis;

    Sammanfattning : To clarify some important molecular aspects of radiosensitivity (RS) in small cell (SCLC) compared with non small cell (NSCLC) lung carcinoma, five studies focusing on DNA damage repair, cell cycle checkpoints and apoptosis were performed. As repair of DNA double-strand breaks (DNA dsb), a critical DNA lesion, may be an important determinant of cellular RS, induction and rejoining of DNA dsb were studied using pulsed field gel electrophoresis in a radiosensitive SCLC line, U-1285 and a radioresistant NSCLC line, U-1810 (paper I). 5. 15. From oncogenic replication stress to drug resistance : F-box proteins as signalling hubs in cancer

    Författare :Andrä Brunner; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer arises from cells that acquire genetic and epigenetic changes during the course of a, sometimes decades-long, somatic evolutionary process. These changes result in deregulation of a multitude of cellular processes leading to novel capabilities, often referred to as hallmarks of cancer, and a strong selective advantage for these cells albeit at a dramatic cost to the organism as a whole.
