16. Role of cadmium and ultraviolet-B radiation in plants, Influence on photosynthesis and element content in two species of Brassicaceae
Sammanfattning : Plants are exposed to many different stress factors during their lifetime, often more than one factor at a time, which highlights the importance of research regarding interaction among stress factors. Cadmium and ultraviolet-B radiation (UV-B, 280-315 nm) are two potential stress factors in the environment, which have gained increased interest due to atmospheric pollution. LÄS MER
17. Apoptosis induced by a human milk protein complex. Cellular and structural studies in tumour cells and bacteria
Sammanfattning : Human milk contains a vast array of bioactive molecules, with nutritional and protective functions. This thesis describes the effects of a human milk protein complex, MAL, on tumour cells and bacteria. During our studies on the anti-adhesive properties of human milk we observed that a milk fraction killed tumour cells. LÄS MER
18. Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies on cisplatin in mice and men
Sammanfattning : Methodological tools for studies of the cytostatic agen cisplatin (CDDP) were explored and applied to elucidate various aspects of pharmacokinetics, drug distribution, chemomodulation and pharmacodynamics. An immunohistochemical assay for analysis of CDDP-DNA adducts, i.e. LÄS MER
19. Malignant glioma : experimental studies with an estrogen-linked cytostatic
Sammanfattning : Malignant gliomas are the most common primary brain tumors in adults. Patients with these highly malignant tumors have an extremely poor prognosis. The situation with a highly proliferative tumor in a non-proliferating tissue should favor cytostatic treatment but so far the role of conventional chemotherapy has been adjunctive. LÄS MER
20. Cystatin C in the Eye and in Specific Model Systems
Sammanfattning : It is a necessity of life to make proteins, and it is an equal necessity to degrade those proteins, to eliminate dysfunctional proteins, and leave room for new ones. The processes of protein synthesis and degradation into peptides - proteolysis - have attracted a great interest during the last decades. LÄS MER
