1. DNA ploidy, proliferation markers and prognosis in malignant melanoma
Sammanfattning : Malignant melanoma is a serious disease when metastases occur. It is therefore important to investigate possible tools for prediction to the outcome of the disease. In the present investigation 265 patients with cutaneous malignant melanoma and uveal melanoma was investigated with flow cytometry. LÄS MER
2. Heterogeneity and biopsy strategies in prostate cancer
Sammanfattning : For the diagnosis of prostate cancer, there is a need to develop biopsy strategies, that give representative information both for detection of cancer and for assessment of prognostic indicators. In 80 men, transrectal core biopsies from 10 standardized positions were taken before radical prostatectomy. 3. Prognostic factors in prostate cancer with special reference to the effect of hormonal therapy
Sammanfattning : We have used image cell analysis to analyse nuclear DNA content on fine needle aspiration biopsies from 96 patients diagnosed to have prostate cancer 1980-81. By stratifying diploid and tetraploid tumours according to a cytometric proliferation index (PI), we suggest a new DNA-classification that is prognostic of death from prostate cancer in multivariate analysis including conventional prognostic factors. 4. Prognostic Factors in Early Stages (FIGO I-II) of Epithelial Ovarian Carcinoma
Sammanfattning : From January, 1988, to December, 1993, 113 patients with FIGO stage IA-IIC epithelial ovarian carcinoma were treated with postoperative radiotherapy. The median follow-up period was 74 months. Tumor recurrences were recorded in 33 cases (30%). The cancer-specific survival rate was 72%. LÄS MER
5. Long-term survival and prognostic factors in endometrial cancer - a populationbased cohort study
Sammanfattning : Aims: The over-all aims of this thesis were to evaluate the associations between prognostic factors and excess mortality rate, between socioeconomic and immigrant status and incidence rate, in endometrioid (EEC) and non-endometrioid (NEC) endometrial carcinoma. Material and methods: Study I-III were retrospective population-based cohort studies including women resident in a defined geographical area, with endometrial carcinoma. LÄS MER
