11. Metabolic Engineering of Central Carbon Metabolism in Saccharomyces cerevisiae The contribution of systems biology to physiological studies
Sammanfattning : Saccharomyces cerevisiae is one of the most well characterized yeast of large industrial interest due to several attractivefeatures such as its capability to efficiently convert glucose into ethanol and carbon dioxide at high flux, its amenabilityto genetic modification and the presence of extensive knowledge databases. For these reasons, it is often considered asuitable cell factory for the production of different classes of compounds. LÄS MER
12. Vitreoscilla Haemoglobin. Genetic Fusions and Metabolic Characterisation
Sammanfattning : Vitreoscilla is an obligate aerobic bacterium living in oxygen-poor environments such as stagnant ponds and decaying vegetable matter. Vitreoscilla expresses a homodimeric haemoglobin (VHb) when subjected to oxygen-limited conditions. LÄS MER
13. Bioinformatic approaches to gene expression in leukemia. Networks and deconvolution
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is develop methods to extract information from high-dimensionality data and to apply them in looking at gene-gene and gene-protein interactions in Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). The in silico methods developed can be used with data from other systems. LÄS MER
14. Integration of functional genomics and data mining methodologies in the study of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia
Sammanfattning : Bipolar disorder and schizophrenia are two severe psychiatric disorders characterized by a complex genetic basis, coupled to the influence of environmental factors. In this thesis, functional genomic analysis tools were used for the study of the underlying pathophysiology of these disorders, focusing on gene expression and function on a global scale with the application of high-throughput methods. 15. Technological Advancements in Affinity Proteomics : From planar antibody microarrays towards a solution-based platform
Sammanfattning : Abstract: Proteomics has the potential to deliver disease-associated biomarkers that could provide diagnostic, prognostic and predictive information to enable precision medicine. Affinity proteomics, most commonly based on antibodies and their ability to specifically capture target proteins, has emerged has a valuable tool in biomarker discovery. LÄS MER
