1. Supersymmetric Dark Matter : aspects of sfermion coannihilations
Sammanfattning : There is very strong evidence that ordinary matter in the Universe is outweighed by almost ten times as much so-called dark matter. Dark matter does neither emit nor absorb light and we do not know what it is. LÄS MER
2. Searches for Dark Matter with IceCube and DeepCore : New constraints on theories predicting dark matter particles
Sammanfattning : The cubic-kilometer sized IceCube neutrino observatory, constructed in the glacial ice at the South Pole, searches indirectly for dark matter via neutrinos from dark matter self-annihilations. It has a high discovery potential through striking signatures. LÄS MER
3. Effects of Dark Matter in Astrophysical Systems
Sammanfattning : When studying astrophysical structures with sizes ranging from dwarf galaxies to galaxy clusters, it becomes clear that there are vast amounts of unobservable gravitating mass. A compelling hypothesis is that this missing mass, which we call dark matter, consists of elementary particles that can be described in the same manner as those of the standard model of particle physics. 4. Dark matter signal normalisation for dwarf spheroidal galaxies : A frequentist analysis of stellar kinematics for indirect Dark Matter searches
Sammanfattning : Indirect detection strategies of Dark Matter (DM) entail searching for signals of DM annihilation or decay, typically in the form of excess positrons or high-energy photons above the astrophysical background, originating from (inferred) DM-rich environments. Due to their characteristics, dwarf spheroidal satellite galaxies (dSphs) of the Milky Way are considered very promising targets for indirect particle DM identification. LÄS MER
5. Cosmological Dark Matter and the Isotropic Gamma-Ray Background : Measurements and Upper Limits
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the isotropic diffuse gamma-ray background, as measured by the Fermi gamma ray space telescope, and its implications for indirect detection of dark matter. We describe the measurement of the isotropic background, including also an alternative analysis method besides the one published by the Fermi-LAT collaboration. LÄS MER
