11. Lung-resident, M2e-specific CD4 T cells critically protect during influenza infection
Sammanfattning : Memory CD4+ T cells are a critical component of the adaptive immune response to fight infection. However, current vaccines against influenza only focus on the other arm of adaptive immunity—triggering B cells to produce antibodies. LÄS MER
12. Regulation of cytotoxic lymphocyte effector functions
Sammanfattning : Studies of patients with inborn errors of immunity provide an important opportunity to understand the human immune system in a natural context. The articles in this thesis are a compilation of such investigations. LÄS MER
13. Cytotoxic mechanisms of selenium in cancer
Sammanfattning : Selenium is an essential trace element with a diverse number of functions in the body as part of multiple selenoproteins. Acknowledged for its cancer preventive properties in clinical trials, selenium has in recent years also evolved as a potential chemotherapeutic agent. LÄS MER
14. Methods for Preclinical Evaluation of Cytotoxic Drugs : With Special Reference to the Cyanoguanidine CHS 828 and Hollow Fiber Method
Sammanfattning : The novel cyanoguanidine CHS 828 has shown promising antitumor activity in many in vitro and in vivo studies. The long-term 14 days in vitro hollow fiber cultures, where tumor cells from different tumor cell lines were cultured inside semipermeable fibers, were more resistant to CHS 828 and other cytotoxic drugs than the shorter-term 3 days cultures. 15. Microphysiometry in the evaluation of cytotoxic drugs with special emphasis on the novel cyanoguanidine CHS 828
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the use of a new technology, the Cytosensor® microphysiometer, in the in vitro evaluation of cytotoxic drugs, using the lymphoma cell line U-937 GTB and primary cultures of tumour cells from patients as model systems. The method was specifically applied to study the metabolic effects of the novel cyanoguanidine N-(6-(4-chlorophenoxy)hexyl)-N’-cyano-N’’-4-pyridylguanidine, CHS 828, currently in phase I/II clinical trials.
