11. Membrane protein proteomics - Novel method for membrane protein identification and quantification
Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins are fairly refractory to digestion especially by trypsin. Less specific proteases like elastase and pepsin are much more effective. However database searching using non-tryptic peptides is much less effective due to the lack of charge localisation at the N- and C-termini and the absence of sequence specificity. LÄS MER
12. Head and Neck Cancer: Studies on microvessel density, radiation response and FDG PET
Sammanfattning : Treatment options of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) usually include combinations of radiotherapy and surgery, and in some cases addition of chemotherapy. In locally advanced cases cure rates are low. Current prognostic factors cannot foresee the outcome for the individual patient. LÄS MER
13. Studies of Mesenchymal Progenitor Cells and Tumour Growth, Integrins and Matrix Metalloproteinases
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we characterize the effect of mesenchymal progenitor cells (MPCs) on tumour growth, and show that MPCs can have inhibitory effects on tumour development. We developed a method to subcutaneously transplant tumour cells, cultured in vitro in a pre-formed gelatin matrix, that made it possible to study the early phases of tumour development. LÄS MER
14. Implementation of MRI gel dosimetry in radiation therapy
Sammanfattning : Gel dosimetry was used together with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure three-dimensional absorbed dose distributions in radiation therapy. Two different dosimeters were studied: ferrous- and monomer gel, based on the principles of radiation-induced oxidation and polymerisation, respectively. LÄS MER
15. Advocates and Voices. Swedish patient associations, their importance to individuals with cancer and collaboration with health care
Sammanfattning : Patient associations (PAs) have an increasing impact for their members and for the health care system. This thesis studies PAs for cancer patients (PACPs) ? currently with over 20 000 members in Sweden ? regarding coverage, activities, and collaboration with the health care system with specific reference to the members? experiences.
