1. Prestress and its application to shell, fabric, and cable net structures
Sammanfattning : Prestressing and shells provide means to create material-efficient and well-functioning structures, as do their combination, offering opportunities for increased material efficiency within the built environment. Prestressing introduces stresses in an object to enhance its performance, and shells include concrete shells, masonry vaults, fabric structures, cable nets, and timber or steel gridshells. LÄS MER
2. Buoy Geometry, Size and Hydrodynamics for Power Take Off Device for Point Absorber Linear Wave Energy Converter
Sammanfattning : Wave energy converters of point absorber type have been developed and constructed. Full scale experiments have been carried out at sea and electricity has been successfully delivered. Linear permanent magnet generators together with a subsea substation and buoys of various geometric shapes have been investigated theoretically and experimentally. LÄS MER
3. Modelling of ultrasonic scattering from a crack in a pipe
Sammanfattning : This thesis considers elastic wave scattering in an infinitely long cylindrical pipe with an infinitely long internal axial crack. The method used in this thesis is called a hypersingular integral equation method since it starts with an integral representation and by using the Green's tensor of the pipe it can be manipulated to a hypersingular equation for the crack-opening displacement (COD). 4. Residual stress in a T-butt joint weld : cylinder versus plane plate geometry
Sammanfattning : The welding process introduces residual stress originating from the heating, melting and cooling of the material. From the point of view of fatigue and stress corrosion cracking, the weld residual stress perpendicular to the weld axis is of particular interest. LÄS MER
5. Scattering of Elastic Waves by Inhomogeneities in Cylindrical Structures
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis we extend the null field approach (in the literature also often referred to as "the T matrix method" or "the extended boundary condition method") to some new multiple scattering problems involving infinite cylindrical surfaces and a bounded obstacle. The first case considered is the scattering of acoustic waves by a bounded obstacle outside an infinite cylinder of constant cross section. LÄS MER
