  1. 11. Geochemical and sedimentary signatures of Phanerozoic events

    Författare :Jane Wigforss-Lange; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; geokemi; Sedimentology; Petrology; mineralogy; geochemistry; Petrologi; mineralogi; Carbon and oxygen isotopes; Jurassic-Cretaceous boundary; K-T boundary; Late Silurian; Events; Trace elements; Sedimentologi;

    Sammanfattning : Geological and biological catastrophic events have occurred repeatedly in the Earth's history, leaving traces in the global stratigraphical record in the form of sedimentary features, geochemical anomalies and biotic turnovers. This thesis focuses on the sedimentological and geochemical signatures of several key events in the Phanerozoic stratigraphical record, and aims to interpret the different signals and the causal mechanisms behind each of these events. 2. 12. Droplet microfluidics for directed evolution of biocatalysts

    Författare :Staffan Sjöström; Helene Andersson Svahn; Florian Hollfelder; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Droplet microfluidics; Enzymes; directed evolution; high throughput screening; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Sammanfattning : Biocatalysts, biologically derived catalysts, are of great importance for a wide range of industrial applications. They are used in the production of for example foods, pharmaceuticals and biofuels. Improving biocatalysts commonly relies on directed evolution, i.e. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Phosphate and Arsenic Cycling under Experimental Early Proterozoic Marine Conditions

    Författare :Christoffer Hemmingsson; Iain Pitcairn; Ernest Chi Fru; Per Andersson; Christophe Dupraz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DIP; Early Proterozoic; coprecipitation; adsorption; Iron formations; BIF; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Nutrient dynamics in the Archean-Paleoproterozoic oceans strongly influenced primary productivity and the rise of atmospheric O2. Reconstructing the cycling of key nutrients such as dissolved inorganic phosphate (DIP) at this time is important for our understanding of the timing, rate and extent of atmospheric oxygenation at this time. 4. 14. Microbial Ecosystem Functions Along the Steep Oxygen Gradient of the Landsort Deep, Baltic Sea

    Författare :Petter Thureborn; Sara Sjöling; Mats Grahn; Matthias Labrenz; Södertörns högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microbial ecology; ecosystem functions; microbial community; bacteria; archaea; metagenomics; metatranscriptomics; oxygen gradient; hypoxia; sediment; Baltic Sea; Environmental Studies; Miljövetenskapliga studier; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Sammanfattning : Through complex metabolic interactions aquatic microbial life is essential as a driver of ecosystem functions and hence a prerequisite for sustaining plant and animal life in the sea and on Earth. Despite its ecological importance, information on the complexity of microbial functions and how these are related to environmental conditions is limited. LÄS MER

  5. 15. The Cyanophyte Arthrospira Fusiformis in African Waters - Eco-Physiology and Potential Use in Tropical Aquaculture

    Författare :Aidate Mussagy; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; limnology; Marinbiologi; marine biology; aquatic ecology; lipopolysaccharide endotoxins LPS ; salinity; osmoregulation; proline; aquaculture feeds; Artemia.; Hydrobiology; anatoxin; microcystin; ITS sequences; phenotype analysis; taxonomy; Cyanophyceae; Arthrospira fusiformis; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The cyanoprokaryote (blue-green algae) genus Arthrospira occurs in saline, alkaline tropical waters of Africa, Asia, and Central America. Traditionally Arthrospira has been used as a food supplement by the Kanembu tribe of Lake Chad and Aztecs living in the valley of Mexico City. LÄS MER
