  1. 1. Neuroimmune interaction in cutaneous leishmaniasis

    Författare :Ahmed Abdelaziz Ahmed; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :human; mouse; Leishmania major; cytokines; neuropeptides; immunohistochemistry; ELISA; RIA; HPLC;

    Sammanfattning : This study was conducted to ascertain how complex interactions between the immune and nervous systems are involved in the pathophysiology of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) caused by Leishmania (L.) major. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Role of Zinc in Leishmaniasis and Tuberculosis

    Författare :Miguel Guzman; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :Cutaneous leishmaniasis; tuberculosis; zinc supplementation; lymphocytes; cell proliferation; INF-γ; CD4 CD8 ratio;

    Sammanfattning : The synergistic relation between nutritional deficiency and infection may have negative effects on the immune system, making individuals more vulnerable to infection. Zinc can affect the resistance to infections by modulating cytokine release, and by acting as a cofactor of thymulin, which induces the differentiation of immature T lymphocytes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The rough journey to access health care : the case of leishmaniasis in the Bolivian rainforest

    Författare :Daniel V. Eid Rodríguez; Miguel San Sebastián; Isabel Goicolea; Anna-Karin Hurtig; John Porter; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Background: Leishmaniasis is a parasitic infectious disease transmitted by vectors that cause three main clinical syndromes: cutaneous (CL), mucosal (ML), and visceral (VL). Since VL is not relevant to this thesis, only CL and ML will be further discussed. LÄS MER

  4. 4. It is on my skin, on my soul, and on my life : development of a disease-specific quality of life instrument for adult patients with acute cutaneous leishmaniasis in Iran

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL), is the most common form of a group of diseases known as leishmaniases. They are caused by obligatory intracellular protozoa from the genus Leishmania and transmitted by sandflies. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cutaneous leishmaniasis : treatment and genetic mechanisms affecting outcome
