11. Towards a Theory of Codes for Iterative Decoding
Sammanfattning : Channel codes in combination with iterative decoding techniques are a both powerful and efficient method to protect data against disturbances in digital communication systems. This thesis deals with various code constructions for block-wise and continuous transmission that have the potential to achieve low bit error rates with iterative decoding, even when operating close to the Shannon limit. 12. Triggers of sick leave : epidemiological studies of work-related factors
Sammanfattning : Background: In Sweden, the prerequisite for compensation during sick leave is a reduction of work ability due to disease or injury. Perhaps as a result of this, sick leave varies between individuals with the same diagnosis and over time in the population in a way that does not coincide with the variations in population health. 13. Singing, sharing, soothing : Family-centred music therapy during painful procedures in neonatal care
Sammanfattning : To sing is to communicate. The soothing, comforting and emotional regulating properties of a lullaby are well-known cross-culturally and historically. This doctoral thesis addresses neonatal pain management from a novel and groundbreaking perspective, studying the efficacy of live music therapy on infants’ pain responses during venepuncture. 14. Microfluidic Hydrodynamic of Gas-Liquid flow in Single Microchannel and Porous Media with Microchannel Network
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, a microfluidics platform with high-speed imaging system was built to investigate gas-liquid flow in single microchannel and interfacial instability in porous media with microchannel network:The mass transfer of slug flow in the rectangular and square microchannels was experimentally studied by using water as liquid phase and CO2 as gas phase. Depending on flow rates, flow patterns including slug flow, bubbly flow, and annular flow were observed in rectangular and square microchannels. LÄS MER
15. The effects of hand training in patients with Welander distal myopathy and myotonic dystrophy type 1
Sammanfattning : The overall aim was to study and gain knowledge about the effects of hand training on both functional capacity such as hand function and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) in patients with Welander distal myopathy (WDM) and Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1). The thesis comprises three interventional studies regarding the effects of hand training in patients with WDM (Study I) and DM1 (Studies II & IV), and one reliability study (Study III) including test-retest and inter-rater reliability of four hand function testing instruments used in Study IV.
