  1. 21. Studies of Accelerator-Driven Systems for Transmutation of Nuclear Waste

    Författare :Marcus Dahlfors; Ane Håkansson; Alfred Hogenbirk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; transmutation; accelerator-driven systems; Energy Amplifier; subcritical reactors; nuclear waste; Monte Carlo simulation; burnup; actinides; fission products; benchmark; nuclear data; neutron cross sections; sensitivity analysis; neutron source; spallation target; n_TOF experiment; neutron time-of-flight; cross section measurement; FLUKA; EA-MC; MCNP; MCNP-X; EADF; TRADE; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Accelerator-driven systems for transmutation of nuclear waste have been suggested as a means for dealing with spent fuel components that pose potential radiological hazard for long periods of time. While not entirely removing the need for underground waste repositories, this nuclear waste incineration technology provides a viable method for reducing both waste volumes and storage times. 2. 22. Investigations of Reaction Cross Sections for Protons and 3He

    Författare :Mattias Lantz; Anders Ingemarsson; Livius Trache; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; reaction cross section; protons; 3He; experimental method; transmission method; optical model; parametrization; matter distributions; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : The reaction cross section gives the probability that a particle will undergo a nonelastic process when passing through a nuclear medium. Therefore reaction cross section data are of importance both for theoretical studies and for applications in such diverse fields as medicine, biology, astrophysics and accelerator-driven transmutation of nuclear waste. 3. 23. High-sensitivity Radioactive Xenon Monitoring and High-accuracy Neutron-proton Scattering Measurements

    Författare :Cecilia Johansson; Jan Blomgren; Nils Olsson; Allena Opper; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; Monte Carlo simulations; MCNP; xenon detection; detector response; neutron detection; elastic scattering; differential cross section; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Two aspects of applied nuclear physics have been studied in this thesis; Monte Carlo simulations for high-sensitivity monitoring of radioactive xenon and high-accuracy neutron-proton scattering measurements for neutron physics applications and fundamental physics. The Monte Carlo simulations have been performed for two systems for detection of radioactive xenon, using the MCNP code. LÄS MER
