21. The complex world of proteins: Structure, function, and oligomerization of frataxin
Sammanfattning : Patients suffering from the deadly progressive neurodegenerative disease Friedreich's ataxia have reduced levels of expression of the protein frataxin. Yeast frataxin has been extensively studied in vitro, and has been shown to deliver iron to heme and iron-sulfur cluster biosynthesis, as well as to oligomerize in the presence of iron. LÄS MER
22. Molecular Recognition Studies Based on Imprinting Technology
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I have focused on five main research areas: 1). A new type of imprinted polymer has been developed, namely the amide MIP. The amide functional monomers showed better hydrogen bonding capabilities in polar organic solvents and the resulting polymers exhibited good enantiomeric recognition properties in organic media. 23. Cross-linking and surface properties of EHEC and Starch -a QCM-D study
Sammanfattning : The increase of the green house gases and the crude oil price has resulted in a willingness to change the raw material in many industries from petroleum-based polymers to natural polymers. One such natural polymer is starch. Today, starch is used in the glue industry in wallpaper pastes. LÄS MER
24. New insights into principles of scaffolds design for bone application
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents deeper insights into bone applicable biomaterials’ design. Poor affinity of BMP-2 towards scaffolds required supra-physiological dose administration. Though molecules containing sulfate could sustain BMP-2 release, side effects occurred due to BMP-2 supra-dose, or these sulfate-containing biomolecules. LÄS MER
25. Artificial receptors: New opportunities for the exploitation of molecularly imprinted polymers
Sammanfattning : Molecular imprinting, method for creating artificial receptors that are mimics of biological antibodies and receptors, is based on the concept of creating substrate-specific recognition sites in polymeric matrices by means of template polymerisation. The polymeric receptors produced display favourable binding characteristics, such as high affinity and specificity towards the substrate molecules. LÄS MER
