1. Outcomes of invasive treatment in chronic limb-threatening ischaemia
Sammanfattning : Background In chronic limb-threatening ischaemia (CLTI), obstruction of the arterial blood flow causes ischaemic rest pain, ulcers or gangrene in the lower extremities. Patients with CLTI have a substantial risk of amputation unless the blood flow is improved, which requires invasive treatment through either open surgery or endovascular intervention. LÄS MER
2. CRITICAL LIMB ISCHAEMIA WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON EPIDEMIOLOGY, INFLAMMATORY MARKERS AND CARDIAC FUNCTION
Sammanfattning : In Conclusion Paper I. In patients undergoing aorto-iliac angiography, no effects of the procedure were seen upon inflammatory mediators. On the other hand, angiography influenced markers of platelet activation in these patients. Paper II. LÄS MER
3. Quality of life in patients with cronical lower limb ischaemia: Before and after revascularisation
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to assess quality of life in patients with varying degrees of lower limb ischaemia before and after revascularisation, to assess quality of life in relation to the degree of ischaemia and the respondents’ sense of coherence (SOC) and in comparison with a healthy control group, and to compare two different quality of life instruments regarding their usefulness as outcome measures. Patients were assessed using the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) and the SOC scale before and six months after successful revascularisation and compared with 102 healthy controls. LÄS MER
4. Infrainguinal Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty in Limbs with Severe Lower Limb Ischaemia
Sammanfattning : Infrainguinal bypass grafting is an established method in the treatment of patients with femoropopliteal and crural occlusive disease leading to critical lower limb ischaemia (CLI). However, complications related to surgical procedure are not negligible and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) has emerged as an alternative. LÄS MER
5. Markers of tissue ischaemia in lower limb arterial insufficiency : an experimental and clinical study
Sammanfattning : Lower limb ischaemic rest pain, ulcers or gangrene are late consequences of advanced peripheral arterial disease, one of the facets of systemic atherosclerosis. The majority of patients will meet current criteria for critical limb ischaemia (CLI). Life expectancy in these patients is severely limited mainly due to coexisting coronary heart disease. LÄS MER
