1. Prevalence of refractive errors and incidence of myopia in Swedish schoolchildren
Sammanfattning : PurposeThe aim of this thesis was to investigate the prevalence, incidence, and risk factors for myopia development in a cohort of Swedish schoolchildren. The specific goals were: - to recruit a cohort of children aged 8 to 16 years and to follow the cohort over a period of 24 months with regular study visits; - to investigate the predictive value of relative peripheral error and other optical parameters for the prevalence and incidence of myopia; - to determine and investigate the predictive value of genetic and environmental factors, and structural characteristics of the eye to the incidence of myopia. 2. Venous thromboembolism: Risk factors, comorbidities, and treatment-associated risk of bleedings
Sammanfattning : Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is the third most common cardiovascular disease, consisting mainly of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Since VTE often is a preventable disease, knowledge of risk factors is critical. Following a VTE, many patients are subjected to extended anticoagulant treatment. LÄS MER
3. Ion Solvation in Critical Binary Aqueous Solvents Probed by Advanced Synchrotron-Based Techniques
Sammanfattning : The Poisson-Boltzmann equation is the standard tool for studying the electrostatic interactions in electrolyte solutions, although it neglects e.g. the ion size and ion-ion correlations. Even experimentally observed specific ion effects cannot be explained in a view of this approximation. LÄS MER
4. CRITICAL LIMB ISCHAEMIA WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON EPIDEMIOLOGY, INFLAMMATORY MARKERS AND CARDIAC FUNCTION
Sammanfattning : In Conclusion Paper I. In patients undergoing aorto-iliac angiography, no effects of the procedure were seen upon inflammatory mediators. On the other hand, angiography influenced markers of platelet activation in these patients. Paper II. LÄS MER
5. Treatment of coagulopathy in patients with critical COVID-19
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Thromboembolic complications affect a large proportion of patients with critical COVID-19, and it may be associated with an increased risk of death. It has been hypothesized that both the virus of SARS-CoV-2 itself and the inflammation caused by the infection puts patients in a pro-coagulative state. LÄS MER
