  1. 1. Prevalence of refractive errors and incidence of myopia in Swedish schoolchildren

    Författare :Pelsin Demir; António Filipe Macedo; Karthikeyan Baskaran; Niall Strang; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Refractive error; myopia; prevalence; incidence; risk factors; children; fovea; macula; autorefractor; aberrometer; synfel; refraktion; myopi; barn; prevalens; incidens; riskfaktorer; fovea; makula; autorefractor; aberrometer; Optometry; Optometri;

    Sammanfattning : PurposeThe aim of this thesis was to investigate the prevalence, incidence, and risk factors for myopia development in a cohort of Swedish schoolchildren. The specific goals were: - to recruit a cohort of children aged 8 to 16 years and to follow the cohort over a period of 24 months with regular study visits; - to investigate the predictive value of relative peripheral error and other optical parameters for the prevalence and incidence of myopia; - to determine and investigate the predictive value of genetic and environmental factors, and structural characteristics of the eye to the incidence of myopia. 2. 2. Venous thromboembolism: Risk factors, comorbidities, and treatment-associated risk of bleedings

    Författare :Katarina Glise Sandblad; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Venous thromboembolism; Registries; Overweight; Body mass index; Incidence; Cardiovascular disease; Anticoagulants; Apixaban; Rivaroxaban; Warfarin; Hemorrhage;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is the third most common cardiovascular disease, consisting mainly of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Since VTE often is a preventable disease, knowledge of risk factors is critical. Following a VTE, many patients are subjected to extended anticoagulant treatment. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Ion Solvation in Critical Binary Aqueous Solvents Probed by Advanced Synchrotron-Based Techniques

    Författare :Monika Witala; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; preferential ion solvation; microscopic segregation of hydrophilic ions; ion size asymmetry; critical binary liquid mixtures; 2; 6-dimethylpyridine; potassium chloride; grazing-incidence x-ray fluorescence; small-angle x-ray scattering; mesoscale ordering; x-ray beam-induced local heating;

    Sammanfattning : The Poisson-Boltzmann equation is the standard tool for studying the electrostatic interactions in electrolyte solutions, although it neglects e.g. the ion size and ion-ion correlations. Even experimentally observed specific ion effects cannot be explained in a view of this approximation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. CRITICAL LIMB ISCHAEMIA WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON EPIDEMIOLOGY, INFLAMMATORY MARKERS AND CARDIAC FUNCTION

    Författare :Jamal Barani; Vaskulära sjukdomar - kliniska studier; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Risk factors.; Peripheral arterial disease.; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Critical limb ischaemia.; inflammatory markers.; Mortality.; Congestive heart failure.;

    Sammanfattning : In Conclusion Paper I. In patients undergoing aorto-iliac angiography, no effects of the procedure were seen upon inflammatory mediators. On the other hand, angiography influenced markers of platelet activation in these patients. Paper II. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Treatment of coagulopathy in patients with critical COVID-19

    Författare :Sandra Jonmarker; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Thromboembolic complications affect a large proportion of patients with critical COVID-19, and it may be associated with an increased risk of death. It has been hypothesized that both the virus of SARS-CoV-2 itself and the inflammation caused by the infection puts patients in a pro-coagulative state. LÄS MER
