  1. 1. The relationship between reduced renal function and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Patrik Svensson; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; eGFR; creatinine; cystatin C; CKD-EPI; CKD; CVD; Genetics; Blood Pressure; Hypertension;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the relationship between measures of renal function and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with hypertension (the NORDIL study) and in the healthy population (Malmö Diet and Cancer Study, MDC) and whether antihypertensive treatment response and the risk of CVD is affected by genetic variation of a regulator of the renal amiloroide sensitive sodium channel (NORDIL). In study 1 we tested creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with Cockroft-Gault (CG) and the MDRD equations and also microalbuminuria (MA) as predictors of CVD, stroke and CVD death. 2. 2. Biomarkers of Renal Function in Acute Coronary Syndromes

    Författare :Axel Åkerblom; Stefan James; Lars Wallentin; Torbjörn Omland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cystatin C; glomerular filtration rate; GFR; creatinine; acute coronary syndrome; ACS; kidney; renal; mortality; death; myocardial infarction; Cardiology; Kardiologi; Medicin; Medicine; Internal Medicine; Internmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis aimed to investigate cystatin C and creatinine-based estimates of glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), both at admission and during follow-up, on the combined endpoint of cardiovascular death and myocardial infarction in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). We also evaluated two cystatin C assays and assessed genetic determinants of cystatin C concentrations. LÄS MER

  3. 3. A life-course approach to chronic kidney disease : risks and consequences

    Författare :Per-Ola Sundin; Scott Montgomery; Katja Fall; Per Sjöström; Dorothea Nitsch; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chronic kidney disease; pneumonia; grip strength; creatinine; cystatin C; adolescence; life-course epidemiology; risk factor; mortality;

    Sammanfattning : Successful primary prevention of chronic kidney disease (CKD) relies on understanding the pathways leading to established disease, including how they extend over the life-course. Projects in this thesis examine risk factors for CKD and consequences of impaired kidney function from a life-course perspective using routinely collected health-data in Swedish registers and research cohort data from the United Kingdom. 4. 4. Identification of the high risk hip fracture patients

    Författare :Magnús Hjaltalín Jónsson; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hip fractures; Mortality; Nottingham Hip Fracture Score; POSSUM; P-POSSUM; Biomarkers; Lactate; GDF-15; CA-125; Cystatin C; Creatinine; Shrunken Pore Syndrome;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Hip fractures are common in older individuals entailing considerable risk of morbidity and mortality. Instruments are needed to enhance risk stratification of hip fracture patients. There is limited knowledge of the role of biomarkers as risk prognosticators for mortality in hip fracture patients. 5. 5. Aspects of retransfusion of shed blood in cardiac surgery

    Författare :Björn Brondén; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CABG; cardiotomy suction; lipid microemboli; porcine study; clinical study; cystatin C; creatinine; iohexol clearance; outcome; retransfusion; transfusion; blood.;

    Sammanfattning : The use of cardiotomy suction during open heart surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) has a long tradition and often regarded as mandatory. Recently, studies have described potentially negative effects of cardiotomy suction with activation of the complement system, enhanced inflammatory response, hemolysis and coagulopathy. LÄS MER
