1. Taking Pressure of Anaplastic Thyroid Carcinoma : Molecular Studies of Apoptosis and Interstitial Hypertension
Sammanfattning : Molecular mechanisms in the development and progression of thyroid carcinomas are still not fully understood. In the present thesis the highly malignant anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) was used to study regulation of apoptosis and tumor interstitial fluid pressure (IFP). LÄS MER
2. Studies of Spinal Motor Control Networks in Genetically Modified Mouse Models
Sammanfattning : Spinal neurons are important in several aspects motor control. For example, the neurons essential for locomotor movements reside in the ventral spinal cord. In this thesis, different motor control functions are being related to neuronal populations defined by their common expression of a gene. LÄS MER
3. Effects of PDGF-B gene inactivation in endothelial cell
Sammanfattning : Platelet-derived growth factor-B (PDGF-B) is expressed by endothelial cells, neurons, macrophages and platelets. The relative importance of these cellular PDGF-B sources in vivo has been addressed by the creation of a conditional PDGF-B allele, which in the presence of a specific recombinase can be silenced in different tissues. 4. Life without mitochondrial DNA : studies of transgenic mice
Sammanfattning : Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is a closed circular DNA genome that resides in the mitochondrial network. Mutations of mtDNA cause spontaneous and hereditary disorders known as mitochondrial diseases. Mitochondrial transcription factor A (Tfam) is a key factor for transcription of mtDNA in vitro. LÄS MER
5. Neuromodulation, Short-Term and Long-Term Plasticity in Corticothalamic and Hippocampal Neuronal Networks
Sammanfattning : Research in neuroscience relies to a large extent on the use of genetically modified animals. Extensive validation of new and existing models is a requirement for the acquisition of trustworthy data and to enable generalization to human physiology and disease. LÄS MER
