Sammanfattning : Bacterial DNA and CpG-containing oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) induce host inflammatory responses as a result of their content of unmethylated ¡§CpG motifs¡¨. Since the CpG motifs in the mitochondrial (mt) genome are in this respect similar to bacterial DNA, in that they are non-methylated, we investigated whether mtDNA also displays inflammatogenic potential. Sammanfattning : With increased knowledge in dendritic cell (DC) biology, innate immune receptors and their ligands, and the shaping of adaptive responses, refined approaches to modulate our immune system are today emerging as treatment strategies for chronic infections and severe cancers. Sammanfattning : Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are pattern recognition receptors, expressed by antigen presenting cells (APCs) that recognize conserved molecular patterns of diverse microorganisms. TLR triggering activates APCs, leading to expression of innate effector molecules and signals that initiate adaptive immune responses. LÄS MER
