1. Effects of Dehydration and Blockade of the Renin-Angiotensin System in the One-humped Camel (Camelus dromedarius)
Sammanfattning : The one-humped or the dromedarian camel is a pseudo-ruminant mammal, well adapted to the hot and dry climates of the desert. Its ability to withstand torrid heat and extreme desiccation is of paramount importance to its survival. LÄS MER
2. Dietary L-Tryptophan Suppresses Aggression and Stress Responsiveness in Juvenile Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) : The Role of Brain Serotonin and Plasma Melatonin
Sammanfattning : Juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fed L-tryptophan (TRP) supplemented feed for 7 days show a suppression of aggressive behaviour along with a reduction in post-stress plasma cortisol levels. However, 3 days of elevated dietary TRP does not have any effects on either aggressive behaviour or post-stress plasma cortisol levels. LÄS MER
3. Studies on stress in African green monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops) : Stress associated cortisol and prolactin levels, lymphocyte modulation and pathological changes in adrenal cortex, stomach and hippocampus in the African green monkey (C. aethiops)
Sammanfattning : African green monkeys (AGMs) are highly susceptible to captivity-induced stress. An investigation of spontaneous deaths of laboratory confined AGMs at the Institute of Primate Research, Nairobi, Kenya over a period of 7.5 years documented mild to severe gastric mucosal erosions and ulcers in 83 of 260 (32%) necropsies. 4. Plasma levels of matrix metalloproteinase‐9 in a normal population : a psychoneuroendocrinological approach
Sammanfattning : Several large‐scale epidemiological studies have demonstrated the prognostic significance of psychosocial factors and stress for coronary artery disease (CAD). Observations of sudden changes in CAD incidence have led to the proposal of mechanisms regarding atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability. LÄS MER
5. The limbic-hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis in Alzheimer's disease
Sammanfattning : Dysfunction of the limbic-hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (LHPA) axis is a common finding in advanced dementia. In this study, the function of the LHPA axis at different levels was investigated in patients with dementia and in healthy elderly.A subtle disturbance in the feedback regulation of the LHPA axis was found in patients with early (i.e. LÄS MER
