  1. 16. Cardiac Troponins in Patients with Suspected or Confirmed Acute Coronary Syndrome : New Applications for Biomarkers in Coronary Artery Disease

    Författare :Kai Eggers; Bertil Lindahl; Stefan James; Paul Collinson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Internal medicine; Ischemic heart disease; Acute myocardial infarction; Troponin; Natriuretic peptide; CRP; Cystatin C; Artificial neural network; Point of care measurements; Risk prediction; Invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : The cardiac troponins are the biochemical markers of choice for the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and risk prediction in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). In this thesis, the role of early serial cardiac troponin I (cTnI) testing was assessed in fairly unselected patient populations admitted because of chest pain and participating in the FAST II-study (n=197) and the FASTER I-study (n=380). 2. 17. Computer Assisted Coronary CT Angiography Analysis : Disease-centered Software Development

    Författare :Chunliang Wang; Örjan Smedby; Anders Persson; Hans Frimmel; Markus Müller; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coronary CTA; vessel segmenation; centerline tracking; visualization; Radiology; Radiologi; Image analysis; Bildanalys; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The substantial advances of coronary CTA have resulted in a boost of use of this new technique in the last several years, which brings a big challenge to radiologists by the increasing number of exams and the large amount of data for each patient. The main goal of this study was to develop a computer tool to facilitate coronary CTA analysis by combining knowledge of medicine and image processing. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Investigation of the origin of the coronary artery calcification process and its relationship to the atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease

    Författare :George Koulaouzidis; Michael Henein; Katrine Åhlström Riklund; Jan Engvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coronary artery calcification; ethnicity; South Asians; Caucasians; reproducibility; aortic valve calcification; mitral valve calcification; family history of coronary artery disease; natural history; coronary artery calcium score; meta-analysis;

    Sammanfattning : The objectives of this thesis are: a) To examine racial/ethnic differences in coronary artery calcification (CAC) and CAD, between symptomatic South Asians and Caucasians, matched for age, gender and conventional cardiovascular risk factors, b) To assess, using a meta-analysis model, the natural history of and stability of measurements of coronary artery calcium scoring (CACs) based on data collected from two large published trials: St Francis and EBEAT, c) To investigate the prevalence of coronary artery calcification in individuals with CT evidence for AVC, mitral valve calcification (MAC) or of both of them (AVC+MAC), d) To assess any potential association between premature CAD (.. 4. 19. Invasive treatment of coronary artery disease : Aspects on antithrombotic and percutaneous treatment options

    Författare :Per Grimfjärd; Stefan James; Christoph Varenhorst; P Hedberg; Lene Holmvang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :PCI; STEMI; stent thrombosis; bivalirudin; heparin; bioresorbable scaffold; cangrelor; drug eluting stent; DES; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The outcome after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has improved considerably thanks to more effective antithrombotic treatment strategies and improved coronary stents. Stent thrombosis (ST) is a rare complication to PCI associated with considerable mortality and morbidity. LÄS MER

  5. 20. No touch vein harvesting technique for coronary artery by-pass surgery : impact on patency rate, development of atheroscleosis, left ventricular function and clinical outcome during 16 years follow-up

    Författare :Benny Johansson; Eva Swahn; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atherosclerosis; coronary artery disease; coronary artery bypass grafting; vein grafts; no touch vein harvesting technique; intravascular ultrasound; echocardiography; clinical outcome; revascularization; outcome analysis; angina pectoris; myocardial infarction; mortality; randomized trial; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis was based on a prospective randomized trial which was started in 1993 to compare the no touch (NT) with the conventional (C) technique of saphenous vein harvesting for CABG.In paper I, was demonstrated superior patency for the NT grafts at short-term (1.5 years; 95,6% vs 89%; p < 0,05) and long-term follow-up (8.
