  2. 2. Harvesting of Saphenous Vein for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting : An Improved Technique that Maintains Vein Wall Integrity and Provides a High Early Patency Rate

    Författare :Domingos Souza; Kjell Rådegran; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Saphenous vein; coronary bypass; endothelium; nitric oxide; patency rate; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Thoracic and Cardivascular Suregery; kirurgi; särskilt thoraxkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : The primary aim of this thesis was to modify saphenous vein (SV) harvesting technique and evaluate its clinical importance. A new "no touch" (NT) technique of SV preparation was developed where the vein is harvested with a pedicle of surrounding tissue, which protects the vein from spasm therefore obviating the need for distension. 3. 3. Tissue engineering in blood vessels

    Författare :Gisela Helenius; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :tissue engineering; vascular graft; endothelial cells; smooth muscle cells; thrombogenicity; mechanical properties; scaffold; bacterial cellulose;

    Sammanfattning : Severely occluded coronary- and peripheral arteries, caused by atherosclerotic plaques, are treated with bypass surgery. Autologous veins are the most commonly used replacement graft. Among the patients that need a vascular bypass, 5-10% lack appropriate replacement veins due to previous surgery of bad quality of the vessels. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Clinically-driven angiography after coronary artery bypass surgery : Results from the SWEDEHEART registry

    Författare :Mikael Janiec; Rickard Lindblom; Stefan Thelin; Alexander Wahba; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CABG; Coronary artery bypass surgery; angiography; graft failure; Thorax Surgery; Thoraxkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : The success of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) arguably depends on the patency rate of the conduits. The saphenous vein grafts (SVGs) most often used are subject to graft disease and their reduced long-term patency compared to left internal mammary artery (IMA) grafts is well established. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Transesophageal Echocardiography in Patients Undergoing Elective Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

    Författare :Ingrid Palmgren; Russell Anderson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology and intensive care; transesophageal echocardiography; low-dose dobutamine; viability; coronary artery bypass; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Sammanfattning : Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) has become a useful tool in monitoring the heart in patients during open-heart surgery. This study was undertaken to evaluate whether it is feasible to use TEE to assess left ventricular myocardial viability in anesthetized patients scheduled for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
