  1. 6. Modelling of stably-stratified, convective and transitional atmospheric boundary layers using the explicit algebraic Reynolds-stress model

    Författare :Velibor Zeli; Gert Brethouwer; Arne V. Johansson; Stefan Wallin; Bert Holtslag; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atmospheric turbulence; convective atmosphere; Reynolds-stress model; stably-stratified atmosphere; transitional atmosphere; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : The atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) is in continuous turbulent motion. The heating and cooling of the Earth’s surface drives mechanic and thermodynamic processes in the ABL through enhancing and damping of atmospheric turbulence. The surface forcing has a profound effect on the diurnal cycle of temperature,wind and related variables in the ABL. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Mathematical Analysis of Forced Convective Flow Due to Stretching Sheet and Instabilities of Natural Convective Flow

    Författare :Prashant G Metri; Sergei Silvestrov; Rebei Bel-Fdhila; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boundary layer theory; Heat and Mass transfer; Partial differential equations; Stretching sheet; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Sammanfattning : The investigations presented in the thesis are theoretical studies of magnetohydrodynamic flows, heat and mass transfer in Newtonian/non-Newtonian cooling liquids, due to horizontal/vertical stretching sheet. The theoretical studies include the effect of magnetic field, uniform and non-uniform heat source/sink (flow and temperature dependent heat source/sink) effects. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Thermal Responses of the Hand to Convective and Contact Cold : with and without Gloves

    Författare :Fang Chen; Ken Parsons; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Many outdoor working tasks and some indoor working tasks still require the worker to perform them in a cold condition. To cope with cold condition, warm clothing is usually applied. Nowadays, the thermal protection of clothing is sufficient but the extremities are still not very well protected. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Thermal response tests : influence of convective flow in groundwater filled borehole heat exchanger

    Författare :Anna-Maria Gustafsson; Jeffrey D. Spitler; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this doctorial thesis was to investigate how thermally induced movements in the groundwater (natural convective flow) may influence the heat transport in borehole and surrounding bedrock in a groundwater filled borehole heat exchanger system. The purpose was also to determine if thermal response tests could be used to detect the convective influence and the effect on evaluated heat transfer parameters, effective bedrock thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance. 5. 10. Local structure and composition : in additively manufactured bulk metallic glasses and composites

    Författare :Inga Katharina Goetz; Jochen M. Schneider; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Ulf Jansson; Maria Teresa Pérez Prado; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; additive manufacturing; bulk metallic glasses; nanoscale clustering; convective flow; laser nitriding; laser powder bed fusion; metallic glass - ceramic composites; oxygen impurities; mechanical properties; magnetic properties; viscosity; Fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Additive manufacturing enables the production of complex multi-material geometries and bulk metallic glass parts beyond their critical casting thickness. The local modification of structure, composition, and properties is explored in this thesis with the aim to design novel composite materials and functional gradients. LÄS MER
