  1. 1. Ergonomics of Breathing Apparatus, with Special Reference to Work of Breathing, Dead Space and Breathing Resistance

    Författare :Dan E. Warkander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; performance; control of breathing; static lung loading; work of breathing; breathing resistance; elastance; helium; hydrogen; hypercapnia; diving; CO2;

    Sammanfattning : A breathing apparatus is a very useful device. It allows people to breathe relatively freely while entering environments that otherwise would be impenetrable such as extreme altitudes, smoke filled buildings, ocean depths and the surface of the moon. However, a breathing apparatus does have some disadvantages. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Neural Control of Movement : Motor Neuron Subtypes, Proprioception and Recurrent Inhibition

    Författare :Anders Enjin; Klas Kullander; Samuel L. Pfaff; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; motor neuron; proprioception; recurrent inhibition; molecular marker; Ia afferent; development; transgenic mice; Renshaw cell; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Movement is central for life, and all animals depend on accurate regulation of movement for purposeful behavior. There is great diversity of movements, ranging between simple and vital breathing movements to minute and subtle movements of the face used to communicate emotions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Regulation of Breathing under Different Pulmonary Conditions

    Författare :Esther Rieger-Fackeldey; Gunnar Sedin; Anders Jonzon; Richard Sindelar; Andreas Schulze; Richard Martin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Control of breathing; Pulmonary Stretch Receptor; Phrenic Nerve Activity; Respiratory Distress Syndrome; Surfactant; Partial Liquid Ventilation; Assisted Ventilation; Pediatrik; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The breathing pattern of preterm infants is immature and is associated with a variety of reflexes. In a patient on the ventilator these reflexes interfere with spontaneous breathing. A better understanding of the immature control of breathing could lead to further improvements in ventilatory techniques. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Glossopharyngeal breathing

    Författare :Malin Nygren-Bonnier; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Airway clearance; breathing exercise; buoyancy; chest expansion; cough; glossopharyngeal breathing; maximum insufflation capacity; pulmonary function; physiotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction and aims: The technique of glossopharyngeal breathing was introduced already in the 1950 s, but today, few health professionals are aware of its uses. The technique is performed by using the glossopharyngeal muscles to piston boluses of air into the lungs. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Lung Function, Respiratory Muscle Strength and Effects of Breathing Exercises in Cardiac Surgery Patients

    Författare :Charlotte Urell; Margareta Emtner; Elisabeth Westerdahl; Hans Hedenström; Agneta Ståhle; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breathing exercises; Cardiac surgery; Deep breathing; Lung function; Oxygenation; Physical therapy; Positive expiratory pressure; Spirometry; Respiratory muscle strength; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Breathing exercises are widely used after cardiac surgery. The duration of exercises in the immediate postoperative period is not fully evaluated and only limited data regarding the effects of home-based breathing exercises after discharge from hospital have been published.
