1. Global Optimization in Computer Vision: Convexity, Cuts and Approximation Algorithms
Sammanfattning : Computer vision is today a wide research area including topics like robot vision, image analysis, pattern recognition, medical imaging and geometric reconstruction problems. Over the past decades there has been a rapid development in understanding and modeling different computer vision applications. LÄS MER
2. Cuts and Continuities: Caste-subaltern imaginations of the Bengal famine of 1943
Sammanfattning : The Bengal famine of 1943, in which nearly three million people died, was man-made. A multitude of factors led to the famine, including British colonial policies, war, hoarding and profiteering by local elites and businesses, and existing faultlines of caste, class and gender. 3. High Order Cut Finite Element Methods for Wave Equations
Sammanfattning : This thesis considers wave propagation problems solved using finite element methods where a boundary or interface of the domain is not aligned with the computational mesh. Such methods are usually referred to as cut or immersed methods. LÄS MER
4. Risky distances : Peripheralisation and normalisation in the case of a maternity ward closure in Sweden
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores risk, peripheralisation and normalisation in the case of the maternity ward closure at Sollefteå Hospital, located inland in the Swedish region of Västernorrland. When the ward closed in 2017, it drew significant media attention and political discussions on the continuous cuts to Swedish maternity care and the growing economic gap between urban and rural areas – discussions that actualised questions of power and risk. 5. Systematics, phylogeography and multiple origins of morphs in two species complexes belonging to Cistaceae, Helianthemum oelandicum and H. nummularium
Sammanfattning : The Helianthemum oelandicum complex shows considerable morphological variation across its geographic distribution in Europe and western Asia. By combining four primer pairs and four restriction enzymes I identified nine cpDNA haplotypes with distinct geographical distributions. LÄS MER
