1. Conjugation in Organic Group 14 Element Compounds : Design, Synthesis and Experimental Evaluation
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the chemical concept of conjugation, i.e., electron delocalization, and the effect it has on electronic and optical properties of molecules. LÄS MER
2. Mitigation of nonlinear fiber distortion using phase conjugation
Sammanfattning : This thesis is devoted to the study of fiber-optic communication systems that mitigate nonlinear distortion due to the Kerr effect by transmitting a phase-conjugated copy alongside the signal followed by coherent superposition. This kind of communication systems are referred to as phase-conjugated twin waves systems when the phase-conjugated copy is transmitted on the orthogonal polarization. LÄS MER
3. Non-canonical ATG8 conjugation in ESCRT-driven membrane remodeling processes
Sammanfattning : ATG8 family proteins have the unique ability to conjugate to membrane lipids. Initially identified as a hallmark of autophagy, ATG8 lipidation is emerging as an important regulator of a growing list of non-degradative cellular functions. LÄS MER
4. Hyperconjugation in Group 14 Organic Compounds : Design and Property Investigations
Sammanfattning : Nowadays π-conjugated molecules are widely used as materials for devices in organic and molecular electronics. This is due to the ability of such molecules to conduct electricity. However, π-conjugation leads to molecular rigidness and associated lower solubility, which limits possible applications. LÄS MER
5. Peptide Conjugates as Useful Molecular Tools
Sammanfattning : The conjugation of a small organic molecule to synthetic polypeptides from a designed set has been shown to give rise to binders with high affinity and selectivity for the phosphorylated model proteins α-casein and β-casein but not for ovoalbumin. The small organic molecule that was used for this purpose is comprised of two di-(2-picolyl)amine groups assembled on a dimethylphenyl scaffold, and is capable of complexing two Zn2+ ions to form chelates that bind the phosphate ion.
