1. Mitochondrial and chromosomal genomics in type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : Understanding the mechanisms of complex polygenic diseases like type 2 diabetes (T2D) is as complex as their nature. Cellular processes involved in glucose homeostasis need high and reliable energy supply. Mitochondria are the major energy producers in mammalian cells. LÄS MER
2. The Complex Genetics behind Neurodegeneration and Susceptibility to Parkinson’s disease
Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder and affects over 1% of people above the age of 65. This progressive and debilitating disease is usually thought of as a motor disease, with symptoms such as muscle rigidity, slowness of movement, and tremor at rest. LÄS MER
3. Identification of genes that regulate arthritis and IgE production in rat and human
Sammanfattning : Multiple genome-wide scans have identified quantitative trait loci (QTLs) that influence inflammatory diseases on chromosome 4q42 in DA rats. Several of the QTLs overlap with the QTL designated Oia2 (Oil-induced arthritis-2), which was originally identified in a genomewide linkage analysis in oil-induced arthritis (OIA), a model that shows similarities to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in human. 4. The Complex Genetics of Mouse Reproduction and Arhritis
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Optimal breeding of mice is very important in biomedical science today. The understanding why some strains breed better and some worse enable scientists to create better in vivo models for human diseases. LÄS MER
5. Genetic Loci Contributing to Spontaneous Autoimmune Diabetes
Sammanfattning : Background and Aims: Spontaneous type 1 diabetes (T1D) in the BioBreeding (BB) rat mimics human T1D as the rats experience weight loss, polydipsia, polyuria, ketoacidosis, onset during puberty and insulin-dependency within a day after diagnosis. Because the DP rat develops T1D spontaneously, it is a prime laboratory animal for dissecting the genetics of T1D susceptibility without the need for external manipulation. LÄS MER
