  1. 1. Explorations of University Physics in Abstract Contexts : From de Sitter Space to Learning Space

    Författare :Daniel Domert; Cedric Linder; Ulf Danielsson; Duncan Fraser; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Physics; phenomenography; cosmology; de Sitter space; quantum mechanics; conceptual understanding; epistemology; physics equations; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; Physics with specialization in Physics Education; Fysik med inriktning mot fysikens didaktik;

    Sammanfattning : This is a thesis which contributes to research in two different fields: theoretical physics and physics education research. The common link between these two research areas is that both involve explorations of abstract physics and mathematical representations, but from different perspectives. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fragment Mass Distributions in Neutron-Induced Fission of 232Th and 238U from 10 to 60 MeV

    Författare :Vasily Simutkin; Stephan Pomp; Franz-Josef Hambsch; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Since its discovery, the phenomenon of nuclear fission is the object of extensive theoretical and experimental studies. However, we are still far from a complete understanding of the fission process. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Conceptual metaphors in learning and teaching entropy : adopting a cognitive semantic approach in science education research

    Författare :Fredrik Jeppsson; Helge Strömdahl; Tamer Amin; Roland Kjellander; David Hammer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; Science education; thermodynamics; semantics; conceptual metaphors; Naturvetenskapernas didaktik; termodynamik; entropi; semantik; begreppsliga metaforer;

    Sammanfattning : Over the last 20 years there has been an extensive amount of research on science learning conducted from a “knowledge-in-pieces” or “resources” perspective. One of the main goals of that research has been to identify and characterize available cognitive knowledge resources that can be productive components of scientific understanding. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Student activity — a way to improve the conceptual understanding of physics in Lao PDR?

    Författare :Phimpho Luangrath; Sune Pettersson; Oleg Popov; Bertil Sundqvist; Svein Sjøberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Mechanics concept; Group discussion; Problem solving strategy; alternative concepts; context.; Subject didactics; Ämnesdidaktik; didactics of physics; fysikdidaktik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis reports about Laotian students’ understanding of the concepts of mechanics, and students’ activities when solving physics problems in groups. Totally, more than 1,000 first year university students from three universities in Laos have been tested using two versions of the Force Concept Inventory (FCI) over a period of three years. LÄS MER

  5. 5. A study of bacterial adhesion on a single-cell level by means of force measuring optical tweezers and simulations

    Författare :Oscar Björnham; Staffan Schedin; Ove Axner; Kirstine Berg-Sörensen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Physics; Fysik; fysik; Physics; cell research; cellforskning; molecular cell biology; molekylär cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The intriguing world of microbiology is nowadays accessible for detailed exploration at a single–molecular level. Optical tweezers are a novel instrument that allows for non–invasive manipulation of single cells by the sole use of laser light and operates on the nano– and micrometer scale which corresponds to the same length scale as living cells.
