6. In conversation with simulation: The application of numerical simulation to the design of structural nodal connections
Sammanfattning : The thesis explores methods for integration of structural analysis, design and production in a digital design environment. The somewhat ambiguous title implies the ambition to make such integration in relation to the explorative phase of the design process which is described by Donald Schön as having a conversational character. 7. Realtime & Development - modes of knowing design computation in architectural practice
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines theoretical, methodological and organisational implications of design computation for architectural practice - from an insider perspective. It also proposes a conceptual model for knowing within this practice, in an approach that interrelates theory and actionable knowledge. LÄS MER
8. Dimmer på Upplysningen : text, form och formgivning
Sammanfattning : The main part of the dissertation is a text. The other is an exhibition mainly presenting a bow-lathe and some furniture designed and produced in that bow lathe. Interior- and furniture design are disciplines in which sensory qualities are important. LÄS MER
9. Surface patterns, spatiality and pattern relations in textile design
Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis focuses on surface patterns, spatiality, and pattern relations in textile design, and aims to explore surface patterns as spatial definers and what they mean in the context of surface patterns. A secondary focus relates to applying conceptual spatial determinations as alternative design variables in design processes, and exploring how these could be used to define and analyse pattern relations. 10. Critical indirectness as a design approach in participatory practice: Spatialities of multivocal estrangement in three engagements with public cultural institutions around participatory projects in Gothenburg
Sammanfattning : Contributing across the domains of open transdisciplinary inquiry and transdisciplinary- and practice-oriented architectural and urbanism research engaging critically with participation in urban contexts, this research proposes critical indirectness as a multivocal design approach in participatory practice, developed through conceptual-analytical inquiry into three cases involving engagements between external art and design practitioners and public cultural institutions around participatory projects in Gothenburg. It joins with calls for art and design practitioners' greater engagement with public sector institutions as way of working towards a more durable and wider impact, with calls to model a more de-centered 'urban-combinatory' practice on the plurality, hybridity, discontinuities, and contingencies of the contemporary city, and with calls for more multiple, contradictory approaches.
