  1. 1. Computerised Microtomography : Non-invasive imaging and analysis of biological samples, with special reference to monitoring development of osteoporosis in small animals

    Författare :Mats Stenström; Gudrun Alm Carlsson; Carl Carlsson; Jim Elliot; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Computed microtomography; CμT; signal-to-noise ratio SNR ; non-invasive monitoring; morphological changes; Gastrectomized Sprague-Dawley; osteoporosis; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The use of Computerised microtomography (CμT) in biomedical research is well established, with most applications developed at synchrotron facilities. The possibility to non-invasively monitor morphological changes in biological samples, makes it an attractive technique in biomedicine. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Cross-modal Imaging in Lung Research: From µCT dosimetry to synchrotron phase contrast microtomography biomechanical insights in preclinical lung injury models

    Författare :Richard Deyhle Jr; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Thermoluminescent Dosimetry; Optically stimulated luminescence OSL ; Computed tomography CT ; 4DCT; Phantoms; Imaging; X-rays; pre-clinical models; Pre-clinical; dosimetry: physical basis; biomedical strain; lung injury; mechanical ventilation; inflammation; lung function; synchrotron; histology; acute respiratory distress syndrome ARDS ; Ventilator Inudced Lung Injury VILI ; Histology; Forced Oscillation Technique FOT ; Divergence Theorem; Registration techniques;

    Sammanfattning : Lung diseases continue to present a large burden to public health, especially in industrialized countries. For abetter understanding of the underlying patho-mechanisms in lung related diseases as well as for testing theefficacy of novel therapies, preclinical studies in animal models are indispensable. 3. 3. The visual ecology of bees - Tales of diverse eyes and behaviours

    Författare :Pierre Tichit; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Animal behaviour; Arthropods; Bumblebees; Compound Eyes; Crystalline cones; Flight control; Image analysis; Landing; Sensory ecology; Stingless bees; Vision; X-ray microtomography;

    Sammanfattning : The buzzing flight of bees is a popular summer hit. Yet, outside of a few familiar species of honeybees and bumblebees, these fantastic little creatures are still mostly unknown. With about twenty-five thousand species, bees are a very diverse group. They can be found in drastically different habitats. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Evaluation of the Dual-Modal usage of contrast agents by means of Synchrotron X-ray Computed Microtomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging using Macrophages loaded with Barium Sulfate and Gadolinium Nanoparticles for Detection and Monitoring in Animal Disease Models

    Författare :Emanuel Larsson; Kajsa Uvdal; Agostino Accardo; Giuliana Tromba; Albert E. Siegbahn; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : ¨This thesis focuses on evaluating the dual-modal Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) capabilities of contrast agents. For such purposes a gadolinium based contrast agent is of high interest, due to its paramagnetic properties, which while present inside a magnetic field will hence interact with the protons spins of water (in tissue and fat) and shorten their the T1 relaxation time, thereby creating a positive image contrast in MRI. 5. 5. Structure and Mechanical Behaviour of Wood-Fibre Composites

    Författare :Thomas Joffre; E. Kristofer Gamstedt; Stéphane Avril; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Wood fibres have several advantages compared to man-made synthetic fibres: they have high specific stiffness, are renewable, relatively inexpensive, available in industrial quantities and biodegradable. However, to increase and diversify their utilisation, it is necessary to increase the understanding on what controls their mechanical properties. LÄS MER
