1. Environmental history in southern Mozambique : Reconstruction of flooding events, hydroclimate and sea-level dynamics since mid-Holocene
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis has been to reconstruct paleoenvironment, paleohydrology and paleoclimate in coastal southern Mozambique, with emphasis on tracing past flooding events on the lower Limpopo River floodplain. In order to extend flood chronologies beyond periods covered by instrumental data, sediments from lakes on the floodplain were studied (Lake Lungué, Coassane Oxbow, Lake Magandane and Lake Soane). 2. Compton Scattering from the Deuteron at Low Energies
Sammanfattning : A series of three Compton scattering experiments on deuterium have been performed at the high-resolution tagged-photon facility MAX-lab located in Lund, Sweden. The 50 < Eg < 70 MeV tagged photons were scattered from a liquid deuterium target and detected simultaneously in three (10"x10") NaI detectors. LÄS MER
3. Image Analysis and Enhancement with Applications in Medicine
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of six parts in which methods for image analysis and processing are studied. Two-dimensional medical images, image sequences, and three-dimensional image volumes are considered. LÄS MER
4. Spectral Photon-Counting Computed Tomography with Silicon Detectors: New Models and Applications
Sammanfattning : X-ray computed tomography (CT) is a widely used imaging modality that enables visualization of nearly every part of the human body. It is used for diagnosis of disease and injury as well as medical treatment planning. LÄS MER
5. Characterization and Optimization of Silicon-strip Detectors for Mammography and Computed Tomography
Sammanfattning : The goal in medical x-ray imaging is to obtain the image quality requiredfor a given detection task, while ensuring that the patient dose is kept as lowas reasonably achievable. The two most common strategies for dose reductionare: optimizing incident x-ray beams and utilizing energy informationof transmitted beams with new detector techniques (spectral imaging). LÄS MER
