  1. 1. Complement in Disease - Extracellular Proteins as Complement Regulators

    Författare :Kaisa Happonen; Malmö Proteinkemi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rheumatoid arthritis; joint disease; Complement; proteoglycan; cancer;

    Sammanfattning : Complement activation occurs during inflammatory joint diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and is thought to contribute to the chronic inflammation observed within the joints. Previous studies have shown that certain cartilage components of the small leucine-rich repeat protein (SLRP)-family regulate complement activity, thereby possibly contributing to disease progression. 2. 2. The Role of IgM and Complement in Antibody Responses

    Författare :Christian Rutemark; Birgitta Heyman; Claus Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Complement; antibody response; mutated IgM; natural IgM; complement receptors; SIGN-R1; SAP; CRP; B cells; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : An intact complement system including the complement receptors 1 and 2 (CR1/2) is crucial for the generation of a normal antibody response in animals and humans. Moreover, activation of the classical pathway is thought to be important since deficiency in complement components C1q, C2, C4 or C3 lead to impaired antibody responses. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Complement aberrations and autoantibodies to complement proteins in relation to disease mechanisms

    Författare :Lillemor Melander Skattum; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; C3 nephritic factors; GM allotypes; C1q autoantibodies; serum bactericidal activity; Neisseria meningitidis; idiopathic sudden hearing loss; complement; Acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis;

    Sammanfattning : The complement system, a part of the innate immune system with several links to the adaptive immune system, plays an important role in the pathogenesis of many diseases. The purpose of this thesis was to document and clarify some of these mechanisms. The thesis is based on four papers (I-IV). LÄS MER

  4. 4. The complement system in stherosclerosis and arthritis

    Författare :Linda Persson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :complement; C3; factor B; ASP; atherosclerosis; hyperlipidemia; arthritis;

    Sammanfattning : The complement system plays an essential role in the humoral immune response. Activated complement has diverse functions, including the initiation of inflammation, recruitment of leukocytes, clearance of immune complexes, neutralization of pathogens, regulation of antibody responses and disruption of cell membranes. 5. 5. Crosstalk Between Activated Platelets and the Complement System

    Författare :Osama A. Hamad; Bo Nilsson; Kristina Ekdahl-Nilsson; Lennart Truedsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; platelets; activated platelets; TRAP; chondroitin sulfate; C1q; factor H; C4BP; C3; Compstatin; complement; platelet-leukocyte complexes; platelet microparticles; Clinical immunology; Klinisk immunologi; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Several studies have shown that complement and thrombotic events co-exist. Platelets have been suspected to act as the bridge between the two cascade systems. LÄS MER
