21. Effects of Dopamine Signaling on Recovery and Inflammation after Ischemic Stroke
Sammanfattning : Ischemic stroke, resulting from occlusion of a brain artery is the most common type of stroke with a prevalence of 15 million people and the leading cause of long-term disability worldwide. Importantly, partial spontaneous recovery of lost neurological functions occurs mainly during the first months after stroke onset, albeit to a limited extent. LÄS MER
22. Flight strategies in migrating birds: when and how to fly
Sammanfattning : Wind has a profound influence on migrating birds since it inevitably will influence travel time and energy expenditure. In this thesis I investigate how migrating birds are affected by, and use winds. LÄS MER
23. Gene regulatory evolution in flycatchers: statistical approaches for the analysis of allele-specific expression
Sammanfattning : Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying evolutionary changes in gene expression is a major research topic in biology. While a powerful approach to study this is the analysis of allele-specific expression (ASE), most of previously published methods can only be applied to lab organisms. LÄS MER
24. Mining DNA elements involved in targeting of chromatin modifiers
Sammanfattning : Background: In all higher organisms, the nuclear DNA is condensed into nucleosomes that consist of DNA wrapped around a core of highly conserved histone proteins. DNA bound to histones and other structural proteins form the chromatin. LÄS MER
25. The cost of phasing out coal: Identifying and overcoming socio-political barriers
Sammanfattning : IPCC climate mitigation scenarios project rapid coal phase-out as an integral part of climate change mitigation. Despite the diffusion of cost competitive low-carbon alternatives to coal power, some argue that current decline is not in line with climate mitigation targets, and that rapid coal phase-out depicted in climate scenarios is not socio-politically feasible.
