  1. 11. The Evolution of Sex Chromosomes and Dosage Compensation in Structurally Dynamic Butterfly Genomes

    Författare :Lars Höök; Niclas Backström; Elina Immonen; Beatriz Vicoso; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sex chromosome evolution; Dosage compensation; Sex-biased gene expression; Faster-Z; Lepidoptera; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Dimorphic sex chromosomes have evolved independently throughout evolution from initially homologous autosomes. Recombination suppression between the sex chromosomes causes one sex chromosome to degenerate, which will influence evolution of sex-linked genes. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Chromosome-specific adaptations of RNA stability and the roles of the roX RNAs in dosage compensation

    Författare :Marie-Line Faucillion; Jan Larsson; Jean-Yves Roignant; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila melanogaster; dosage compensation; buffering; RNA stability; RNA decay; RNA half-life; RNA-seq; genome-wide; sex chromosomes; evolution; roX1; roX2; POF; MSL; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Sex chromosomes evolved from an ancient pair of autosomes and the Y chromosome lost most of its genetic information in the process. This created two kinds of genomic imbalances: the first one between males (XY) and females (XX) and the second one between the sex chromosomes and the autosomes (X:AA). LÄS MER

  3. 13. Molecular Recognition Mechanisms: Thermodynamics and Polarization Spectroscopy of DNA--Intercalator Complexes

    Författare :Hans-Christian Becker; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; groove-binding; DNA; intercalation; linear dichroism; polarization spectroscopy; thermodynamics; enthalpy--entropy compensation;

    Sammanfattning : Mechanisms for molecular recognition in DNA--intercalator complexes have been investigated by optical spectroscopy. The effect of electrical charge on binding geometry and binding thermodynamics was studied using 2,7-diazapyrene (DAP) and its N-methylated cations DAP+ and DAP2+ as model ligands. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Mechanisms and Dynamics of Mecillinam Resistance in Escherichia coli

    Författare :Elisabeth Thulin; Dan I Andersson; Laura Piddock; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mecillinam; Antibiotic resistance; Escherichia coli; Urinary tract infections; Fitness; Penicillin binding proteins; cysteine biosynthesis; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The introduction of antibiotics in healthcare is one of the most important medical achievements with regard to reducing human morbidity and mortality. However, bacterial pathogens have acquired antibiotic resistance at an increasing rate, and due to a high prevalence of resistance to some antibiotics they can no longer be used therapeutically. 5. 15. Analytical developments and applications of ambient mass spectrometry imaging : Visualizing challenging analytes and understanding chemical mechanisms of ischemic stroke

    Författare :Leonidas Mavroudakis; Ingela Lanekoff; Daniel Globisch; Malcolm Clench; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mass spectrometry imaging; ischemic stroke; mass spectrometry; isomers; spatial metabolomics; host-guest; Kemi med inriktning mot analytisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Bioanalytical methods that provide spatial information on molecular distributions are important for deep understanding of chemical mechanisms in health and disease. For instance, the localized action of drugs and metabolites can provide valuable information on metabolism in specific cellular regions, which would not be possible with bulk analysis. LÄS MER
