  1. 1. Species interactions and community structure

    Författare :Peter Frodin; Technology and Social Change (WTS) Centre for Work; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Ekologi; spatial structure; local stability; enrichment; species interactions; Community structure; population dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : In this theses I have focused on how the mechanisms of species interactions affect community structure. It is well known that certain species may have a particularly strong influence on the structure of a community. What is not fully understood is how to characterize these species that have such a strong impact on community structure. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Distribution and Differences : Stratification and the System of Reproduction in a Swedish Peasant Community 1620-1820

    Författare :Jonas Lindström; Maria Ågren; Jan Lindegren; Carl-Johan Gadd; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Peasant; stratification; inequality; reproduction; resources; distribution; social mobility; household; family; community; landholding; principles; conditions; social structure; feudalism; early modern period; Björskog; Sweden; agrarian history; social history; History; Historia;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation examines the character, conditions and change of peasant stratification in early modern Sweden. Wherever and whenever one looks, one finds that resources were unevenly spread among peasant households. In the literature, there are different, and conflicting, views compatible with this finding. 3. 3. Benthic diatoms in the Gulf of Bothnia : Community analysis and diversity

    Författare :Svenja Busse; Michael Sullivan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Baltic Sea; Biodiversity; Biomass; Community ecology; Diatoms; Multivariate analysis; Navicula; Phytobenthos; Salinity gradient; Scale; Size; Water movement; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; Ecological Botany; Ekologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : Benthic diatoms are valuable tools for biological monitoring and paleo-ecological reconstruction of past environmental conditions. This thesis aims at describing size-related properties of benthic diatoms and suggests that data assessment for community analysis can be improved by considering the importance of scale. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pollution-Induced Community Tolerance (PICT) of Bacteria: Evaluation in Phenol- and Antibiotic Polluted Soil

    Författare :Louise Aldén; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antibiotics; Bacteria; Community; Fungi; Leucine incorporation; Phenols; Soil; Pollution-Induced Community Tolerance PICT ;

    Sammanfattning : The effects of organic pollutants on the soil microbial community were studied in this work. The main aim was to evaluate the use of pollution-induced community tolerance (PICT) in studying the effects of pollution. The leucine incorporation technique (indicating bacterial growth) was used to monitor changes in tolerance. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Ensemble methods for protein structure prediction

    Författare :Marcin J. Skwark; Arne Elofsson; Michael Tress; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein structure prediction; model quality assessment; contact prediction; homology modeling; ab-initio prediction; consensus prediction; structural bioinformatics; bioinformatics; protein structure; biokemi; inriktning teoretisk kemi; Biochemistry with Emphasis on Theoretical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins play an essential role in virtually all of life's processes. Their function is tightly coupled to the three-dimensional structure they adopt.Solving protein structures experimentally is a complicated, time- and resource-consuming endeavor. LÄS MER
