1. Benthic diatoms in the Gulf of Bothnia : Community analysis and diversity
Sammanfattning : Benthic diatoms are valuable tools for biological monitoring and paleo-ecological reconstruction of past environmental conditions. This thesis aims at describing size-related properties of benthic diatoms and suggests that data assessment for community analysis can be improved by considering the importance of scale. LÄS MER
2. Predators in low arctic tundra and their impact on community structure and dynamics
Sammanfattning : The abundance of predators and their impact on ecosystem dynamics is a vividly discussed topic in current ecology. In my studies, incorporating field observations, field experiments and theoretical modeling, I explored the importance of predators and predation in a low arctic tundra ecosystem in northern Norway. 3. Spatial and temporal ecology of oak-associated fungal communities
Sammanfattning : Plants host a large diversity of microorganisms, which includes fungi, bacteria and archaea. Among these, fungi are highly diverse, and known to play a vital role in plant health and in regulation of the essential ecosystem functions. LÄS MER
4. Species interactions and community structure
Sammanfattning : In this theses I have focused on how the mechanisms of species interactions affect community structure. It is well known that certain species may have a particularly strong influence on the structure of a community. What is not fully understood is how to characterize these species that have such a strong impact on community structure. LÄS MER
5. Community Assembly and Spatial Ecology of Saproxylic Coleoptera
Sammanfattning : Community assembly is the process deciding inclusion/exclusion of species in a developing community. Spatial ecology integrates spatial habitat factors with local biotic interactions within a given patch. I used standardized tree bolts (0.35-1 m long) to sample saproxylic (wood living) beetles in natural and managed forest types. LÄS MER
