11. Combined thermal and mechanical loading of railway wheel treads. A numerical study of material response and cracking under braking conditions
Sammanfattning : The scope of the thesis is prediction of the material response owing to combined thermal and mechanical loading of a railway wheel tread. The long-term objective is to improve models for prediction of surface-initiated Rolling Contact Fatigue (RCF) under the combined effect of mechanical loading due to rolling (and sliding) contact and thermal loading due to braking and/or wheel--rail friction. 12. Dynamic Train/Track Interaction: Simulation of Railhead Corrugation Growth under a Moving Bogie Using Mathematical Models Combined with Full-Scale Measurements
Sammanfattning : Heavier trains and higher speeds have increased the need for high-quality tracks and vehicles in order to fulfill safety and environmental requests. The phenomena involved in dynamic train/track interaction lead to noise radiation, induce ground-borne vibrations and degrade the track structure and the railcar wheels. LÄS MER
13. Kinetic Studies of NOx Storage and Reduction Catalysts - Flow Reactor Experiments and Microkinetic Modeling
Sammanfattning : The NOx storage and reduction (NSR) technology is a promising technique to reduce NOx during oxygen excess e.g. in lean burn engine exhaust. A typical NSR catalyst consists of the following components: precious metals, such as platinum, palladium or rhodium, a storage component, usually barium, and a high surface area support, such as γ-alumina. 14. Topics in Modeling, Control, and Implementation in Automotive Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats different aspects of automotive control-systems and consists of four papers covering different areas in this large field. The first paper presents a 9-degrees-of-freedom dynamic model of a tractor-semitrailer vehicle, aimed at simulation and evaluation of active chassis-systems for stability enhancements. LÄS MER
15. Towards accurate modeling of moving contact lines
Sammanfattning : The present thesis treats the numerical simulation of immiscible incompressible two-phase flows with moving contact lines. The conventional Navier–Stokes equations combined with a no-slip boundary condition leads to a non-integrable stress singularity at the contact line. LÄS MER
