  1. 6. The plasticity and geography of host use and the diversification of butterflies

    Författare :Jessica Slove Davidson; Niklas Janz; Tommi Nyman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nymphalidae; host range; phylogeny; distribution; latitude; phylogeography; local specialisation; colonisation; host shift; polyphagy; speciation; diversification; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Our world is changing rapidly and factors like urbanisation, changed agricultural practices and climate change are causing losses in butterfly diversity. It is therefore of importance to understand the source of their diversity. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Round goby invasion of the Baltic Sea : the role of phenotypic variation

    Författare :Magnus Thorlacius; Tomas Brodin; Göran Englund; Jost Borcherding; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Round goby Neogobius melanostomus ; behaviour; animal personality; dispersal; species invasions; colonisation; spread; sociability; activity; boldness; aggression; cortisol coping-styles; biology; biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Biological invasions are a major threat to biodiversity world wide with annual economic costs up to 1.4 trillion dollars. The round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) is a particularly fierce invader that threatens ecological function of the Baltic Sea. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Ectomycorrhizal community structure and function in relation to forest residue harvesting and wood ash applications

    Författare :Shahid Mahmood; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 14C allocation; P uptake; Calcium oxalate; Solubilisation; Tricalcium phosphate; Wood ash; Forest residue; N deposition; rDNA; ITS region; PCR-RFLP; Spruce; Ectomycorrhiza; Community structure; Wood ash colonisation; Spruce colonisation; Competition; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Ectomycorrhizal fungi form symbiotic associations with tree roots and assist in nutrient-uptake and -cycling in forest ecosystems, thereby constituting a most significant part of the microbial community. The aims of the studies described in this thesis were to evaluate the potential of DNA-based molecular methods in below-ground ectomycorrhizal community studies and to investigate changes in ectomycorrhizal communities on spruce roots in sites with different N deposition, and in sites subjected to harvesting of forest residues or application of wood ash. 4. 9. Evolutionary history and chloroplast DNA variation in three plant genera: Betula, Corylus and Salix. : The impact of post-glacial colonisation and hybridisation

    Författare :Anna Palmé; Andrew Lowe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; chloroplast DNA; phylogeography; hybridization; phylogeny; Salix caprea; Betula pendula; Corylus avellana; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; naturvårdsbiologi; Conservation Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The great difference in the level of chloroplast variation and its geographic structure among the three main species studied here demonstrates that forest species do not form a homogeneous group. Hazel shows a genetic structure similar to many other thermophilous species and this structure, in combination with fossil evidence, indicates that the post-glacial colonisation of most of Europe originated in a refugium in western France while the Balkan and Italy were colonised from a south-eastern refugium. 5. 10. Äktenskap i Sápmi : Giftermålsmönster och etnisk komplexitet i kolonisationens tidevarv, 1722-1895

    Författare :Gabriella Nordin; Peter Sköld; Lotta Vikström; Ólöf Gardarsdóttir; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; äktenskap; giftermålsmönster; nuptialitet; Sápmi; norrland; kolonisation; samer; etnicitet; ackulturation; 1700-tal; 1800-tal; Sverige; Karesuando; Jukkasjärvi; Jokkmokk; Gällivare; lappförsamlingar; History; Historia; historia; History;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores a period in Northern Sweden when contacts between Sami and non-Sami became more frequent as the colonisation progressed. The investigated period is 1722-1895 and eight parishes in northern Sweden are under study. Both the northern as well as the southern Sami area are represented. LÄS MER
