1. Individual Differences in Multitasking : Support for Spatiotemporal Offloading
Sammanfattning : In both the private and work spheres, multitasking among three or more activities has become and is continuing to evolve as a pervasive element of everyday life, and recent technological advances only seem to be exacerbating the process. Despite attempts to understand the mental processes that let humans successfully multitask, little is known about the functional cognitive level at which these mental processes take place. LÄS MER
2. The aging brain and changes in cognitive performance : Findings from morphometry and quantitative susceptibility mapping of iron
Sammanfattning : Brain aging is a heterogeneous phenomenon, and this thesis illustrates how the course of aging can vary within individuals over time and between individuals as a function of age, sex, and genetic variability. We used two contrasts from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), namely spin-lattice T1-weighted imaging, and quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) from gradient-echo images, to picture the aging brain, by means of morphometric measures and brain-iron concentrations. 3. Sex Differences in Memory and Other Cognitive Abilities
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to study sex differences in memory and other cognitive bilities in healthy adults. In Study I, participants performed a number of episodic memory tasks that were more or less verbal in nature. LÄS MER
4. The genetics of schizophrenia : sex, drugs, and cognition
Sammanfattning : Cognitive impairment constitutes an important predictor of general functional outcomes in schizophrenia. Polygenic risk for schizophrenia has been linked to cognitive ability as well as brain activation during cognitive processing. LÄS MER
5. The alluring nature of episodic odor memory : Sensory and cognitive correlates across age and sex
Sammanfattning : Episodic memory for olfactory information is still relatively uncharted. The overall purpose of this thesis is to investigate the sensory and cognitive causes of the well-established age-related decline in olfactory episodic odor memory and of the age-independent sex difference in olfactory episodic memory.
