1. Cognitive deafness : The deterioration of phonological representations in adults with an acquired severe hearing loss and its implications for speech understanding
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to examine possible cognitive consequences of acquired hearing loss and the possible impact of these cognitive consequences on the ability to process spoken language presented through visual speechreading or through a cochlear implant. The main findings of the present thesis can be summarised in the following conclusions: (a) The phonological processing capabilities of individuals who have acquired a severe hearing loss or deafness deteriorate progressively as a function of number of years with a complete or partial auditory deprivation. 2. Integrating Probability- and Value Information in Judgment and Decision-Making under Risk : Cognitive Processes, Competence, and Performance
Sammanfattning : Many instances in human affairs involve considering the value of different outcomes and the probability (or risk) of these outcomes occuring (e.g., gambling, financial decision-making, medical decision-making, criminal behavior). LÄS MER

4. The Cognitive Basis of Joint Probability Judgments : Processes, Ecology, and Adaption
Sammanfattning : When navigating an uncertain world, it is often necessary to judge the probability of a conjunction of events, that is, their joint probability. The subject of this thesis is how people infer joint probabilities from probabilities of individual events. LÄS MER
5. Similarity-based processes in human multiple-cue judgment : evidence from brain imaging and cognitive modelling
