  1. 1. Artefactual Intelligence: The Development and Use of Cognitively Congenial Artefacts

    Författare :David de Léon; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; pervasive computing; affective computing; persuasive computing; Psychology; Psykologi; computer-mediated extrospection; precommitment; self-control; situated cognition; distributed motivation; cognitive ethnography; distributed cognition; cognitive biographies; redesign; task–artefact cycle; artefact evolution; artefact design; task structure; cognitive task; cognitive congeniality; artefactual intelligence; cognitive artefacts; task environment; tools; Cognition; artefacts; ubiquitous computing;

    Sammanfattning : How can tools help structure tasks to make them cognitively easier to perform? How do artefacts, and our strategies for using them, develop over time in cognitively beneficial ways? These are two of the main questions that are explored in the five papers collected in this thesis. The first paper details an ethnographic study conducted on people cooking in their homes. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Model-Based Cognitive Radio Strategies

    Författare :Kasra Haghighi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Spectrum utilization; cognitive radio; censorship; CLAPP; sequential detection;

    Sammanfattning : Many frequency bands for wireless services are severely underutilized by the primary users (PU) to which these bands are assigned. This motivates a new class of wireless communication devices known as cognitive radios (CR), which identify vacant spectrum and transmit accordingly. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cognitive Sensing and Transmission Strategies

    Författare :Kasra Haghighi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hidden Markov Model; Spectrum Sensing; Sequential Spectrum Sensing; Cognitive Radio; Spectrum Utilization;

    Sammanfattning : Many frequency bands for wireless services are severely underutilized by the primary users (PU) to which these bands are assigned. This motivates cognitive radios (CR), which identifies vacant spectrum and transmit accordingly. Many algorithms, some as simple as energy detection, are used to sense the spectrum. LÄS MER

  4. 4. I Don’t Want to Hear It : Cognitive Control Strategies in Response to Task-Irrelevant Sound

    Författare :Örn Kolbeinsson; Hugo Hesser; Erkin Asutay; Louise McHugh; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cognitive control; Emotion regulation; Auditory distraction; Mental suppression; Ironic processes; Auditory perception; Kognitiv kontroll; Emotionsreglering; Auditiv distraktion; Mental suppression; Ironiska processer; Auditiv perception;

    Sammanfattning : An adequate capacity for cognitive control, the ability to maintain goal-directed behavior despite conflicting environmental demands, is a requirement for effective functioning. Whether it be the capacity to delay gratification or to effectively regulate emotions, various types of cognitive control allow us to function effectively despite the enormous complexity encountered in everyday life. Sammanfattning : In the thesis, that has its basis in my educational work at Malmö Theatre Academy, I discuss how actors in training solve the problem of embodying the role ? how they, from their ideas, feelings, thoughts and knowledge create the physical actions of the role. My discussion has its basis in how the training in acrobatics can form a sort of model for the strategies needed by the actor to perform on stage. LÄS MER
