  1. 11. Pathogenesis of infections related to foreign devices within the cerebral ventricles

    Författare :Fredrik Lundberg; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bacteriology; Microbiology; CSF-shunt; complement activation; vitronectin; hydrocephalus; coagulase-negative staphylococci; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Coagulase-negative staphyloccoci (CoNS) are the most frequently isolated micro-organisms from infected cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunts and temporary ventricular drainage catheters, used in modern neurosurgery. CoNS originate from the skinflora of the patient or the surgeon and gain access to the surface of the implant at the insertion, but the infection can erupt up to a year later or more. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Diagnostic and epidemiological studies of staphylococci in bovine mastitis

    Författare :Aldo Capurro; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Diagnostic and epidemiological studies of staphylococci in bovine mastitis.Mastitis is the most common disease in dairy cows and is often caused by staphylococcal infections. The genus Staphylococcus is divided in coagulase-negative (CNS) and coagulase-positive (CPS) staphylococci. The CPS S. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Species specific susceptibility testing for ß-lactam antibiotics. With special reference to staphylococci

    Författare :Ann Cathrine Petersson; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bakteriologi; mycology; Mikrobiologi; virology; bacteriology; beta-lactamase; staphylococcus; methicillin resistance; Microbiology; mecA susceptibility testing; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis was to identify methods for the detection of ß-lactam resistance in staphylococci, bacteria often causing nosocomial infections. Detection of ß-lactam resistance in these species is difficult due to strong regulation of genes encoding for the two main resistance mechanisms, ß-lactamase production and the penicillin-binding protein (PBP) 2?. 4. 14. Postoperative mediastinitis : risk factors, wound contamination, diagnostic possibilities

    Författare :Catarina Yael Bitkover; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :postoperative mediastinitis; risk factors; coaglase-negative staphylococci; pulsed field gel electrophoresis; computed tomography; granulocyte scintigraphy; inflammation; postoperative infection; procalcitonin; sternotomy; heart surgery;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of these studies has been to investigate different aspects of postoperative mediastinitis. Radiological investigations and biochemical markers of infection and inflammation were examined, risk factors analyzed and spread of bacteria during operation studied. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Staphylococcal prosthetic joint infections : similar, but still different

    Författare :Staffan Tevell; Bo Söderquist; Åsa Nilsdotter-Augustinsson; Annelies Zinkernagel; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prosthetic joint infections; staphylococcal infections; nasal carriage; Staphylococcus aureus; Staphylococcus epidermidis; Staphylococcus capitis; NRCS-A; antibiotic resistance; heterogeneous glycopeptide resistance; whole-genome sequencing; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases;

    Sammanfattning : Staphylococci constitute a major part of our commensal flora but are also the most common bacteria causing prosthetic joint infections (PJIs), a dreaded complication of arthroplasty surgery. However, not all staphylococci are the same. LÄS MER
