  1. 16. Baltic cod predation: mechanisms, impact on prey, implications for fisheries

    Författare :Nataliia Kulatska; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Trophic interactions are fundamental in the functioning of ecosystems. Predator-prey interactions between cod (Gadus morhua), herring (Clupea harengus) and sprat (Sprattus sprattus) in the Baltic Sea are typical examples of strong trophic interactions with consequences on the structure of this ecosystem. 2. 17. QSBMR Quantitative Structure Biomagnification Relationships : Studies Regarding Persistent Environmental Pollutants in the Baltic Sea Biota

    Författare :Katrin Lundstedt-Enkel; Jan Örberg; Per Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biomagnification; Multivariate modelling of environmental data; Transport of contaminants; Environmental toxicology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : I have studied persistent environmental pollutants in herring (Clupea harengus), in adult guillemot (Uria aalge) and in guillemot eggs from the Baltic Sea. The studied contaminants were organochlorines (OCs); dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), hexachlorobenzene (HCB), hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), and brominated flame retardants (BFRs); polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD). 3. 18. Fish predation by the great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis) : analytical basis for ecosystem approaches

    Författare :Maria Ovegård; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the diet of a piscivorus top predator, the Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis), in the Baltic Sea. The Great Cormorant has increased exponentially in numbers during the last decades. This has resulted in a human-cormorant conflict because of its perceived competition with fisheries and negative impact on ecosystems. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Improved Assessment in Environmental Monitoring of POPs : Using monitoring data from the aquatic ecosystem and human milk

    Författare :Elisabeth Nyberg; Anders Bignert; Jochen Mueller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental monitoring; temporal trends; power analysis; sampling strategy; PCBs; DDTs; HCHs; HCB; PCDD Fs; fish; bird eggs; blue mussels; human milk; miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis deals with several aspects of monitoring of persistent organic contaminants (POPs) in biological matrices, for example choice of sample, sampling design, and statistical treatment of data both for temporal and spatial trends and for compliance towards a set target value. The efficiency has been evaluated through statistical power analyses. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Exploring genetic diversity in natural and domestic populations through next generation sequencing

    Författare :Nima Rafati; Leif Andersson; Carl-Johan Rubin; Alvaro Martinez Bario; Craig Primmer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecological adaptation; seasonal reproduction; Atlantic herring; domestication; speciation; rabbit; skeletal atavism; Shetland ponies; NGS; SMRT sequencing; genome; transcriptome; assembly; structural variation; genetic diversity; HCE; TSHR; SHOX; CRLF2;

    Sammanfattning : Studying genetic diversity in natural and domestic populations is of major importance in evolutionary biology. The recent advent of next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies has dramatically changed the scope of these studies, enabling researchers to study genetic diversity in a whole-genome context.
