  1. 1. Control over the Cloud : Offloading, Elastic Computing, and Predictive Control

    Författare :Per Skarin; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cloud; Control Theory; Model Predictive Control; Offloading; Elastic Computing; Networks; Utility Computing; Cloud Services; Internet-of-Things; Distributed Cloud; 5G Systems;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis studies the use of cloud native software and platforms to implement critical closed loop control. It considers technologies that provide low latency and reliable wireless communication, in terms of edge clouds and massive MIMO, but also approaches industrial IoT and the services of a distributed cloud, as an extension of commercial-of-the-shelf software and systems. 3. 3. Performance problem diagnosis in cloud infrastructures

    Författare :Olumuyiwa Ibidunmoye; Erik Elmroth; Guilliano Casale; Viktoria Fodor; Henrik Björklund; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Systems Performance; Performance anomalies; Performance bottlenecks; Cloud infrastructures; Cloud Computing; Cloud Services; Cloud Computing Performance; Performance problems; Performance anomaly detection; Performance bottleneck identification; Performance Root-cause Analysis; Computer Systems; datorteknik; Computer Science; datalogi;

    Sammanfattning : Cloud datacenters comprise hundreds or thousands of disparate application services, each having stringent performance and availability requirements, sharing a finite set of heterogeneous hardware and software resources. The implication of such complex environment is that the occurrence of performance problems, such as slow application response and unplanned downtimes, has become a norm rather than exception resulting in decreased revenue, damaged reputation, and huge human-effort in diagnosis. 4. 4. Energy-efficient cloud computing : autonomic resource provisioning for datacenters

    Författare :Selome Kostentinos Tesfatsion; Johan Tordsson; Eddie Wadbro; Erik Elmroth; Laurent Lefevre; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cloud computing; datacenter; energy-efficiency; performance management; virtualization;

    Sammanfattning : Energy efficiency has become an increasingly important concern in data centers because of issues associated with energy consumption, such as capital costs, operating expenses, and environmental impact. While energy loss due to suboptimal use of facilities and non-IT equipment has largely been reduced through the use of best-practice technologies, addressing energy wastage in IT equipment still requires the design and implementation of energy-aware resource management systems.     Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cloud computing; edge computing; kubernetes; federation; scheduling; quality elasticity;

    Sammanfattning : According to the Infrastructure-as-a-Service conceptualization of cloud computing, Infrastructure Providers offer utility-like pay-as-you-go access to computing resources (e.g., data processing, networks, and storage) to Service Providers, who use those resources to host applications for the benefit of end users.
